The fourth Fremantle CLUB CRAWL, as part of this year’s Heritage Festival, was a great success on Friday night with more than 100 people participating in the tour of the Navy Club, Buffalo Club and Workers Club. The tour was lead by journalist and author of Fighting for Fremantle Ron Davidson and former Freo councillor and now president of the Workers Club Don Whittington.

No doubt the Buffalo Club is the most photogenic of the three clubs with the upstairs room featuring furniture made out of match sticks. They also have a singing reindeer in the bar. The Workers Club generously supplied the participants with cheese and olive platters and party pies, while Don Whittington talked about the 100 year history of the club supported by a great power point presentation produced by designer Bob Somerville. It was fantastic to see so many younger people interested in this heritage event, so thank you to all the clubs for showing us around!

P.S. I stayed outside to direct latecomers, so no photos of the Navy Club.

Two festival events this Saturday! Tour of the Fort Knox (former Dalgety&Co) warehouse at 10 am, and at 1 pm an Introduction to the Freopedia QR Code guide starting at the Round House.

I have to admit my ignorance and tell you I have never heard of Frankie Davidson, but my friends at the FREMANTLE WORKERS CLUB in Henry Street love the man and have contracted him to perform there this Sunday May 18 from 1.30- 5 pm, so that should make for a good afternoon of cabaret music and dance.

Pre-sale tickets are inly $ 15.00 or at the door on Sunday $ 20,00. The kitchen will be open for lunch, so go in early and have a nice meal.

The HERITAGE FESTIVAL CLUB CRAWL is on tomorrow, Friday May 16 at 5pm. It visits the Navy and Buffalo Clubs and ends at the Fremantle Workers Club. Come along!

EARLY ST PATS AT FREO WORKERS CLUB

Posted in fremantle by freoview on March 13, 2014

Tell your wife it’s all about saving money when you argue if you should go out on Friday night. A pint of Guinness for only $ 7.00 and an Irish music concert by Sean Roche for only $ 15.00 (members $ 10,00) is such a bargain that one cannot stay at home.

It’s all happening at the FREMANTLE WORKERS CLUB in Henry Street at 7.30 this Friday, and is a bit of an early St Patrick’s Day celebration.

The cafe will be open from 5.30 for a good and cheap meal, so go join the fun, and bring the wife!

HIDDEN TREASURES WINTER MUSIC STARTS TONIGHT

Posted in fremantle, music by freoview on July 4, 2013

The HIDDEN TREASURES Winter Music Festival starts in the West End of Fremantle this evening, so this is the time to spoil yourself while supporting the local music industry and clubs. Tickets are only $ 10 for a great night out and drinks and food at club prices, so there is no reason to stay at home really. What you’ll pay for the ticket is probably cheaper than having the heater on at home all night.

The music starts at the Fremantle Workers Club from 5.30-10, Buffalo Club from 6-9, Navy Club from 8-11.30 and at the gorgeous Merenda Gallery from 8-9.30.

Meet new people, have a laugh, fall in love, have a dance, listen to great music and enjoy a great night out!

BEATLES TO BOOST MORALE FOR DOCKERS GAME

Posted in fremantle by freoview on May 25, 2012

I have to be careful not to make this blog a noticeboard full of free advertising, but my friends at the Fremantle Workers Club asked me to help promote this Heritage Festival event, so here the info about the Beatles Singalong there on Saturday evening.

It’s the night before the Dockers will get trashed by the mighty West Coast Eagles, so you Dockers tragics might as well built up positive energy on Saturday night to help you with Sunday’s disappointment. Go the Eagles!

FREO’S WORKERS CLUB RESURRECTED

Posted in fremantle by freoview on April 22, 2012

Not long after Easter and Fremantle was given a real proof of resurrection at the Fremantle Workers Club last night. The club was declared dead only a year ago, but yesterday it was bursting at the seam when a packed house cheered on the fantastic Rich n Famous band.

It is quite unbelievable what new president Don Whittington and a small group of volunteers have achieved at the club, with hundreds of new members signing up. It was amazing to see so many young people turning up last night, and the perception that clubs like the FWC have a retirement home atmosphere could not be further from the truth.

There are lessons to be learned here for other struggling clubs, and also for the City of Fremantle. One does not have to reinvent the wheel, or destroy the character, to revitalise the city, but offer people something special to enjoy.

Well done Don, Ruth and all who worked so hard to resurrect the Fremantle Workers Club. And thank you Rich n Famous. You rock!!
