CAFES MIGHT SURVIVE ON TAKE AWAY ONLY

Posted in cafe, city of fremantle, cofee, government, health, hospitality, Uncategorized by freoview on March 15, 2020

I have a suggestion to make for all our governments, before they might enforce closure of cafes, because of coronavirus worries, which could kill many of those small businesses.

If you believe it is necessary, close the cafes, but allow them to sell takeaway coffee and food through some kind of hole in the wall system, by simply not allowing patrons to enter the cafe, or sit at alfresco tables and seats.

That should be a good and acceptable compromise. Not sure how you can do that with bars, taverns and restaurants though. Beer on the go?

The most important message and attitude we all must have is to not get morose and stop enjoying life, or we’ll end up with more depressions and anxiety sufferers that those affected by the nasty virus. Keep smiling!

MARKET UNDER TREES AND PAPAYA TREE IN FREO

dsc_0010-1

It’s the long WA Labour Day weekend, so no reason not to be out and about in Fremantle on Sunday, as most of us won’t have to turn up for work on Monday or get the kids to school early.

Autumn has started and it was pleasantly cool this morning, so why not head out between 8am and noon to the fantastic Growers Green Farmers Market at Fremantle College on Lefroy Road in Beaconsfield.

It is the first Sunday of the month, so that means it is a big market with additional art&craft stalls, etc.

There is plenty of fresh produce, breads, pastries, eggs, organic and vegan food and of course yummy, coffee, breakfast and lunch on the menu.

Papaya Tree

From 2-4pm NSW youngsters Papaya Tree will be performing their mix of reggae, funk, rock and jazz in the Fremantle Arts Centre courtyard. It is a FREE concert!

The cafe, pizza bar and bar will be open and there are some great new exhibitions as well.

FREO’S MOORE&MOORE CAFE CELEBRATES 11TH BIRTHDAY!

Posted in cafe, children, city of fremantle, cofee, food, hospitality, Uncategorized by freoview on February 21, 2019

MM 3

Congratulations to Simon Naber, who started the great Moore&Moore cafe in Fremantle’s Henry Street 11 years ago. Well done!!!

Simon developed the lovely cafe into a wedding and function centre and was also the first to build a parklet for alfresco dining in Fremantle. He also created a children’s playground in the back courtyard which is shared with the Paper Bird children’s book shop.

The M&M is very popular with Notre Dame University students, who manage to make a cup of coffee last for hours so that they can use the free wifi in the building.

Great food, great coffee, great service and often great art in the arts centre, and live music several mornings each week.

MOORE&MOORE CAFE SUPPORTS LOCAL ART

junko

Nice to see a local business supporting a local artist.  This great new print by Junko Kitamura is now hanging in the Moore&Moore cafe in Fremantle’s Henry Street.

It is interesting to know that Junko used to be a barista  at the M&M many years ago and had her first show in the gallery there. She is one of my favourite printmakers.

MORE PARKLETS FOR FREO’S WEST END

Posted in cafe, city of fremantle, cofee, hospitality, local government, parklet, Uncategorized by freoview on May 6, 2018

Freo 3

The FPOL Committee of the City of Fremantle will on Wednesday decide if it will allow two more parklets in Pakenham Street.

The one in front of the Natural Light cafe has been removed and the shop is now on Marine Terrace, but the operators of a new gin distillery, bar and restaurant want to put a new parklet there.

The owner of the Ghetto Blaster hole in the wall cafe also wants a parklet in front of his business, so if approved that would make it five parklets in Pakenham Street.

I did not know that it is international PIRATE DAY until I walked in to CHALKYS cafe in Fremantle’s far West End.

Owner Danielle is flanked by baristas Elin and KiKI, who all dressed up for the day.

Freo BID is also having a pirate theme for school holidays with their Treasure Hunt. It runs from September 19 to October 8 and there are a lot of prizes to be won.

COMMOTIONS AT THE FREO CARRIAGE CAFE

The lovely Carriage Cafe on the Fremantle Esplanade has new owners(again), a new name CARRIAGE COFFEE SHOP, a new coffee brand, new menu, new chef, new events and new ideas, so make sure to try them out soon!

Owners Rochelle and Dave are well-known local musicians who live in Freo’s West End and are members of the FLUID GROOVE band.

On weekends they are running Commotions@The Carriage where local buskers play on Fridays from 2-4 pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 4 pm.

The Carriage Coffee Shop is close to the playground, Esplanade Youth Plaza skatepark and the Tourist Wheel, so perfect for families.

They can operate for another two years before the City of Fremantle wants them to move on. That is a real shame, because the cafe should stay and also become a small bar at night.

It is questionable if the building can be relocated without destroying it, as the roots of the trees have grown into the foundations.

The City has offered the owners three locations to consider; the grassed area at South Beach, where there are already two cafes, Pioneer Park, that is close to many cafes in the area, or the grassed area at Bathers Beach near Kidogo Arthouse.

The Bathers Beach option is remarkable and shows how inconsistent the City of Fremantle can be, because Kidogo arthouse was not allowed to build toilets to the south of the gallery as it would affect the view corridor to the ocean. The Carriage building is much bigger and would impact on the historic interpretation of the area.

Anyway, go and support the Carriage Coffee Shop and tell Fremantle Council we don’t really need a new hub near the ferris wheel and another burger bar.

They are on Facebook, so keep up to date with what they do.
