Pacific jewel

Fremantle has been busy with cruise ship passengers the last two days. Yesterday the huge Celebrity Solstice arrived early in the morning and departed at 8pm. It has the capacity of carrying 2,852 passengers.

Today the Pacific Jewel arrived and is due to depart at 4 pm, which is good for Freo traders as there probably won’t be enough time for passengers to hop on a bus to the Pinnacles, so more of them will stay in town.

The impressive looking ship can carry 1,670 passengers and has eleven guest decks.

Welcome to Freo!

CRUISE SHIP TSUNAMI FOR FREMANTLE

QE2 last voyage. departing fremantle. w.a.

Fremantle Ports report that they have a record number of cruise ship passenger this financial year that already exceeded 100,000 and will increase. Already 111,555 passengers have been to Fremantle this financial year and 98,000 of them disembarked or started their holiday here.

Over a million Australians had a cruise holiday last year and a total of 43 cruise liners will visit the port of Fremantle this financial year.

The challenge for Fremantle is to keep as many cruise ship passengers in town and not let them hop on busses to the Pinnacles and Swan Valley and that requires the local traders to work together with COF and the ChamberĀ of Commerce to create incentives.

There is huge economic potential for Fremantle in the cruise ship industry but tapping into it is made difficult because the cruise companies want to organise all the tours and bookings to make more money.
