GLEN COWANS WINS EXCELLENCE IN RETAIL AWARD

I am over the moon that the Glen Cowans Photo Gallery at the Roundhouse last night was awarded the winner of the Excellence in Retail category at the annual Fremantle Chamber of Commerce Business Awards.

The Ocean On Your Wall gallery is one of Freo’s great experiences that is owned by the very creative and professional husband and wife team Glen and Louise. It shows all the beauty and magic of the colourful underwater world of our planet’s oceans.

Glen takes all the photos when the couple go diving all over the world and recently added a drone to his equipment, while Louise takes and edits all the video footage.

The prints are done in house by Glen and the jewellery is created by Louise.

The delightful gallery is next to the Roundhouse on top of Arthur’s Head/Manjaree, so go and visit them. They are open Thursday-Sunday from 10.30am till 4pm.

Congratulations Louise and Glen! You really deserve this award. You work hard and excel at what you are doing!

Arthur Head drone photo

My friend and fellow photographer Glen Cowans took this amazing drone photo of the Fremantle Roundhouse and Arthur Head.

Glen has his underwater photography gallery next to the Roundhouse and was testing his new drone for future diving photo trips around the world.

Since Glen gave me permission to publish the photo here on Freo’s View I’d better give him a plug. ; >)

The Glen Cowans Photography Gallery at Captain’s Lane is an amazing insight into the wonderful and mysterious world of the oceans and well worth a visit.

Mounted and block mounted prints, print on canvas, and jewellery are all on display. Check out the pendants, rings and earrings created by Glen’s wife Louise, ladies!

The gallery is open Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10.30am till 4pm.

You can also check out all Glen’s work on-line here: http://glencowans.com/?doing_wp_cron=1529366624.0747931003570556640625

OMG THERE ARE SHARKS IN THE INDIAN OCEAN! WHO WOULD HAVE KNOWN?

Posted in city of fremantle, indian ocean, oceans, sport, tourism, Uncategorized by freoview on April 17, 2018

What a load of absolute bullshit and crap and all the media hype surrounding it!

So some of the pro surfers don’t feel safe anymore at Margaret River because of today’s two shark attacks near Gracetown.

May I suggest that these spoiled professionals, who fly first class around the world and earn millions of dollars, take their corporate responsibility more serious.

Instead of bloating your already over inflated ego why did you not point out to your followers on social media that there have ONLY been 15 shark attacks along the entire massive coast of Western Australia since the year 2000, so not even one a year!

The probability of  being mugged and killed, having a deadly car accident, or falling from the sky in an airplane is much higher than being attacked by a shark in Western Australia.

The comments by these professional surfers, who are well aware that they surf in the same oceans also frequented by sharks, are irresponsible and ignorant, and very damaging to the tourism of our state. And the media hype is just sensationalism instead of good journalism!

Feb 25 Underwater Film Fest

The Fremantle UNDERWATER FILM FESTIVAL is on this Sunday February 25 from 6-9 pm at the Fibonacci Centre in Blinco Street, so all you snorklers and divers get out there and see some great short movies.

We in Freo are lucky that we can see outstanding underwater photography and video permanently on display at the Glen Cowans Gallery next to the Roundhouse, so if you can’t make it to The Fib on Sunday wander over to the Roundhouse where Glen’s gallery is open Thursday to Sunday from 10.30 am to 4 pm. You won’t be disappointed!

SHARK NET FOR FREO’S BATHERS BEACH

Posted in bathers beach, fremantle, indian ocean, nature, oceans by freoview on January 30, 2017

I hear Fishing Boat Harbour traders are telling fellow business people the State Government have promised them $ 200,000 to install a shark net at Fremantle’s inner city Bathers Beach.

This would be a ridiculous waste of money as the beach is hardly used and only a handful of people swim there and I have never heard of a shark scare in Bathers Bay.

I have seen dolphins, seals, pelicans, drunks and even a dead whale there but never a shark, so why waste tax payers money on a shark net?

Some of the major traders down there are treating Bathers Beach as if it is their own property and that does not sit well with the community and other businesses.

There were thousands of people protesting against a shark net at Cottesloe Beach a few years ago so I wonder how the Fremantle community will react to this news.

I noticed an interesting ship coming into Fremantle port this morning, so had to check it out of course. It is the JOIDES Resolution, an ocean drilling vessel that is studying the oceans of the Earth and paleoclimate through scientific drilling.
