This long bubble tube at the Fremantle Winter Festival at the Esplanade is very popular with children who run and roll around inside it.
It looks like a whole lot of fun, so can we have a senior night in them as well? Only kidding!
If you haven’t been there, go and check it out. There is ice skating and a huge slide, toboggan, food and drinks and even hot chestnuts and ‘real’ snow.
Congratulations to the Fremantle BID group for coming up with the FREO FUNOPOLY concept for the school holidays. What a great way marketing our city by asking children, accompanied by adults, to discover and wander around Freo.
I talked with many of them at the Roundhouse, where we had been supplied with a stamp by BID to put on the map, and they not only loved it, but consumed quite a bit and discovered new elements of our city.
We quite often get people up at Arthur Head who do Amazing Place races with their companies, as part of their group and leadership building, so it is something BID and the City’s marketing department should offer more often.
It would be perfectly suited to a heritage festival for example.
Well done Business Improvement District for this innovative support for our traders!
Yesterday’s rainy day was a bit of a bummer for the Fremantle STREET ARTS FESTIVAL, but today and tomorrow are going to be perfect, so come along!
The shows start from 1 o’clock and go all afternoon, while there will be food trucks at Kings Square from 5 t0 9 pm.
There are performances all along the closed off Cappuccino strip, where outdoor pop-up bars have also been set up, and there are shows on the Esplanade and at the Bathers Beach boardwalk.
In beautiful High Street is the West End Weekender with stalls and entertainment.
For those from outside Fremantle there is parking at Queensgate, Collie and Point street multi storey carparks and plenty of on street parking at Little High Street, Victoria Quay, Beach Street, or park further out and hop on one of the free CAT busses. It’s well worth it for a full day of free entertainment!
We in Freo are not some whimpy soft sooks but real (wo)men and we know whatever happens that THE SHOW MUST GO ON!
So great news to hear the STREET ARTS FESTIVAL will be happening today, tomorrow and on Monday in between rain breaks.
Please go and support it as a lot of effort has gone into organising the event and artists from all over the world have flown in to perform for us. Just bring a brollie, and there are plenty of cafes where one can shelter and have a warm drink and meal.
This is the best Fremantle festival, so be part of it, tell your friends and tourists, because this is the Freo life!!
The yearly Fremantle STREET ART FESTIVAL is on again on the long Easter weekend, March 24 to 28, so don’t leave town! If you are not from Fremantle you need to visit for at least one day of the weekend and country people should stay all weekend in one of our many B&Bs, hotels or backpackers. It will be well worth it!
From France come FLAQUE, the cutting-edge juggling rubber men, and the English WHEEL HOUSE brings us poetry in motion on the road to nowhere. From Niger, Kabylia and France come EZZA with their sound of Tuareg music that is a blend of modern rock and African pulse.
Dutch ‘Barbie’ LISA LOTHE has awesome flexibility and does incredible things with hula hoops and from the UK come LEAP, emancipation at its best, a very strong lady and graceful man.
USA’s POGO FRED holds many Guinness Book of Records for his gravity-defying pogo stick stunts, while THE BED from Spain is all about looking for a place to sleep.
Quite clearly THE ENGLISH GENTS from Australia are not republicans, but their acrobatics are world class.
Italian HANGER shows pantomime with a coat hanger and combines that with physical theatre and juggling, and from Argentina come KINEMATOS who will be suspended six metres in the air to share their sweet naughtiness and humour.
LORDS OF STRUT are Ireland’s most loveable idiots. Their show is Bonkers!
One never has to stay hungry long in Fremantle, but DINO”S RESTAURANT from Italy serves up a different kind of buffet with breathtaking balancing acts, dance and acrobatics.
And there are many more performers and also the STREET ARTS FOOD VILLAGE at Kings Square where food trucks offer yummy treats every day of the long weekend from 11am to 9pm.
Down in High Street the WEST END WEEKENDER will be on again with stalls, live music, fashion, art and craft activities.
I adore the Street Arts Festival. It is my very favourite Festival in festival city and I highly recommend to do nothing else over Easter but come to Freo for three days of pure fun, and it is FREE!!!
I thought I’d better give you all well-advanced notice of a huge fun Freo weekend ahead so you can plan accordingly.
Friday we have the BIG FREMANTLE SHAVE at the Ball&Chain bar from 5.30 pm and the opening of ANYA BROCK’s exhibitions at PS ART SPACE from 6.30 pm.
On Saturday the all weekend CHILLI FESTIVAL starts on the Esplanade, and there is also the BIKE MUSIC FEST UNCHAINED at Princess May Park next to Clancys from 1 pm. Another bike event is that night at South Beach where LIGHT ME UP BIKES will visit the international food market from 6.30 pm.
The traditional yearly BROOME TO BICTON free concert with the Pigram Brothers is on in Quarantine Park near the Bicton Bath from 5.30 pm on Saturday as well.
On Sunday the gorgeous GROWERS GREEN FARMERS MARKET is on from 8 am till midday, the SUNDAY BBQ session at J Shed is on from midday till 9 pm, the free courtyard Sunday concert at the Fremantle Arts Centre is from 2-4 pm with the VILLAGE VIBES, and at STRANGE COMPANY free music is on from 4-6 pm, while at Clancys they’ll start the March CRUCIAL ROCKERS free concerts from 7 pm.
What a choice hey. Freo is a great place to have fun. Take part and enjoy it!
Today is the last GROWERS GREEN FARMERS MARKET of 2015 at the South Fremantle Senior High School on Lefroy Road, so don’t miss it! It will be a big market with fantastic Christmas presents on offer and of course all the great fresh produce, organic fruit and vegetables, bread, pastries, fish, meat, eggs, etc.
There will be very special entertainment by Kavisha and Giri Mazzella in the music tent from 9-11.30 and Voicebox will perform Poems of Peace and Goodwill from 9-10.30.
But there is more!! (Sorry, no steak knives) The Growers Green Christmas Party is on at the Hilton Bowling Club from 2 pm on. Free entry, live music, barefoot bowling and drinks at club prices, so join the community fun!
The Growers Green market has raised many thousands of dollars over the last years to support the South Freo senior high school, so your support for the market is also a support for the school and community.
There will be a big Christmas party in Fremantle’s Princess May Park this Friday from 4-10 pm. There will be food and gift stalls and a Clancy’s pop up bar, and of course Father Christmas will be there.
There will be live music by local school bands and the Celtic big band The Fling, so get ready to make this a family night out and sit under the stars.
Kaya and G’day! There will be the traditional finish to the annual FREMANTLE FESTIVAL this weekend with the big Festival Parade at 4 pm on Sunday. Expect a huge float from the Perth Freight Link opponents, a lot of music, school kids, fairies, fun floats and political ones and it all ends with a party at Kings Square.
On Saturday from 6-9 pm the WARDARNJI ABORIGINAL FESTIVAL will be on at the Fremantle Arts Centre with a lot of music, dancing, bush tucker etc. The event is sponsored by Make Smoking History, so not sure if that means no smoking ceremonies from now on. I am only kidding! It will be moorditj, which is the Whadjuk Nyoongar word for deadly, as in great!
I love the Wardarnji and the Parade, so you’ll see me there taking lots of photos.
