Wasn’t it great to have thunder and lightning, and a short burst of heavy rain in Fremantle this afternoon?!

STAY COOL IN FREMANTLE

With Perth bracing for heatwave conditions for the rest of the week, there are lots of ways to beat the heat in Fremantle.

The weather bureau is forecasting a maximum of 38 degrees in Perth today, 39 degrees on Thursday and 40 degrees on Friday through to Sunday, prompting the WA Health Department to activate the State Hazard Plan for heatwaves.

Heatwaves are Australia’s deadliest natural hazard, killing more people than cyclones, floods and bushfires combined. Young children, seniors and people with chronic diseases are at particular risk.

Mayor Brad Pettitt said Fremantle was a good option for people looking to escape the heat.

“Being by the ocean Fremantle is generally two or three degrees cooler than Perth, but that still means we’re expecting temperatures in the high thirties for the next few days,” Mayor Pettitt said.

“Our Community Safety Team will be keeping a close eye out for people who are showing signs of heat stress and handing out water to people who need it.

“There are also lots of places in Fremantle that are inexpensive or free, like the Fremantle Library”

Fremantle Library located at Fremantle Oval offers a cool space to relax, read and study, with free WiFi and computers available to use. One can als keep cool and enjoy great exhibitions a coffee and food at the Fremantle Arts Centre, and of course a dip at the Fremantle Leisure Centre will cool one down as well.

STINKING HOT BUT BEAUTIFUL FREO

Summer has really started with a bang, and is now officially the hottest start of December since the recording of daily temperatures started.

Friday was a real stinker with the seabreeze never arriving, so people were out and about in Fremantle.

I don’t recall ever having seen so many people watching the sunset at Bathers Beach.

MAD DOGS AND BATHERS BEACH FOOTBALL

beach soccer

It was officially 39 degrees when I took the photo of the Beach Football at Fremantle’s Bathers Beach today. It was probably hotter with the reflective heat of the sand, but that did not deter the male soccer players today, and the female ones played yesterday.

It is dead quiet in town and about a million vacant parking bays, so take advantage of it. ; > )

It is hot but very dry with little humidity so perfect weather for me.

FREO HAIRDRESSER’S UNUSUAL AIRCON

aircon

It’s going to be hot on the weekend but the people at Enzo D’Alessandro hairdressers in Fremantle’s High Street have catered for it with this rather unusual aircon to keep their customers nice and cool.

SUMMER HAS ARRIVED-IN AUTUMN

It looks like the big G. up in the heavens is getting old and confused because summer has finally arrived, now that we’ve moved into autumn. What a stinker it was yesterday- the hottest day since February last year.

It is not going to be much better today because high humidity will offsett the slightly lower temperature.

Good to get outside around sunset and feel the first quite cool seabreeze at 7pm. That’s when I took these photos of Fremantle Port.

A VERY WET FREMANTLE SUMMER

Posted in fremantle, rain, summer, weather by freoview on February 11, 2017

wet-one

This has been the strangest summer in Fremantle I have experienced. Wet, cold and only a couple of days near 40 degrees so far.

More heavy rain last night woke me up and there is more to come. The Manning Park Market this morning has been cancelled and it does not look too good for outdoor concerts and markets over the weekend, so make sure to check out if they are going ahead before you leave home.

The most disappointing thing for me is that most of all that beautiful rain in a city environment is wasted and runs down into the ocean because of the lack of rainwater catchment. I so wished the government would make it compulsory to install rainwater tanks at every new building because it would help the depletion of our dams.

I took this photo at 5 pm in High Street near the Roundhouse yesterday. Rain on the car windscreen created the mood.

COLD MORNING AT FREO RAINBOW

If you thought it was cold this morning for a summer’s day when you woke up you are not wrong. I should have put on a jacket when I went out at 6 am to take photos of the Fremantle Rainbow sculpture.

According to BOM the Perth/Fremantle region had last year the coolest 12 months in a decade and the coldest winter in over 20 years, so stay warm and hug a loved one, or a stranger if you are brave enough. :>)

Alternatively get a nice coffee or tea in one of the many great Freo cafes! I just did at the Moore&Moore cafe where I was served by the lovely Persephone and Hannah.

BALMY FREMANTLE SUMMER

Posted in fremantle, summer by freoview on January 21, 2015

It has been a very pleasant summer in Fremantle so far with the early sea breeze keeping the temperatures down on most days and making the nights balmy. I took these photos of the Maritime Museum and Indian Ocean at sunset yesterday. They make for a good start of the mid week.

SUMMERTIME IN FREO

Posted in fremantle, summer by freoview on January 7, 2015

summertime sunset dinner at Joe's

It has been unusually busy in Fremantle on week days lately and today was the same again with a large number of people at Bathers Beach and the Fishing Boat Harbour, but the alfresco cafes along the Cappuccino Strip were also doing well.

I took the ‘Sunset Dinner at Joe’s’ and ‘Summertime‘ photos around 7 pm today. It’s hard not to love Freo!
