Festivals bring a lot of people into Fremantle and that is a good thing, but what is not good is that the Esplanade public toilets are not available to the general public during the Beer Festival this weekend.

There are no public toilets in the Fishing Boat Harbour, only those a long walk south from Little Creatures near the carpark, and who knows about those?  Nor are there public toilets at Bathers Beach, so the next public toilets are inside the Fremantle Markets and at Kings Square. That is not good enough City of Fremantle!

We are in for a very hot weekend so the Fremantle Beer Fest on the Esplanade will no doubt be the favourite location for many people to down a few coldies.

It’s a year of firsts for the summer festival as Fremantle BeerFest introduces the Paddle Bar that will host a collection of 40 project craft beers and ciders. Showcasing the creativity and skill-set of our brewers in producing a variety of quirky, strange and interesting festival brews brewed exclusively for Freo BeerFest!

BeerFest will take festival-goers on a journey of beer and food discovery; exploring rare brews, beer/food pairing and exclusive festival brews, ciders, cocktails and boutique spirits from around the Country, direct from the brewers themselves.

It’s the biggest and most anticipated BeerFest season yet. Australia’s longest running, original beer festival returns this summer with seven festivals taking place across Australia.

Over 300 unique, exotic and small batch craft beers, ciders, cocktails and wines, hand crafted and perfectly complemented by the most decadent local street eats.

BeerFest continues to deliver a huge line-up of live entertainment with Australian electronic dance group Art vs Science headlining.

So much for the City of Fremantle responsible alcohol policy and allowing large booze events in our city. WA TODAY reports that two young men in their early twenties were bashed unconscious on Sunday night as they were leaving the Fremantle Beer Festival on the Esplanade.

Friends who visited last year’s Beer Fest reported that many people were mindlessly drunk as early as 5 pm so maybe it is time for the City to say no to events that only attract large crowds because it is about drinking alcohol.

Having fun does not mean getting pissed!
