Wake up Freo and get out and about while the weather is fine. There is thunder and rain forecast for late afternoon and the evening, so make the best of it!

The Freo Farmers Market is on from 8am till noon, the cafes are open and need our support, so have a nice breakfast somewhere, and then stroll around our beautiful city and support our retailers, restaurants and pubs, who need a bit of TLC.

What a stunning day in Freo paradise it is!

I went to the Freo Farmers Market, that is now at Bruce Lee oval, because the Covid-19 health concerns forced it to move away from Fremantle College.

Farmers markets that were on school grounds all over Perth have been closed, so we are very lucky that Fremantle Council was flexible and allowed the popular market to move to the oval.

The FFM is open every Sunday of the year from 8am till noon, so go and support those traders who get up very early to offer us fresh produce.

FREMANTLE MARKETS CLOSES

Posted in city of fremantle, food, fremantle markets, Freo Farmers Market, health, Uncategorized by freoview on March 25, 2020

The Fremantle Markets has just announced that it will be closed for the the time being, due to coronavirus concerns and government restrictions. This is very sad news as it will again affect many small businesses and sole operators, who rely for income on the markets.

The Freo Farmers Market is still going ahead on Sunday, but I presume they will only be allowed to sell food.

Many national retailers today also announced closures of their shops, so times are well and truly dire.

I feel for all who have been made unemployed. It is not your fault, so don’t feel embarrassed to apply for Centrelink support! You have a right to it, deserve it, and need it!

Let us all you hope that all these measures will slow down the pandemic considerably and that life can go back to normal earlier that anticipated. Stay well and look after each other!

FREO MARKETS ESSENTIAL FOOD SUPPLIERS

It is good news that, with all the coronavirus restrictions in place, the Fremantle Markets and the Freo Farmers Markets are allowed to continue trading, as they have been classified as essential services providers for fresh food.

It will no doubt be a far more pleasant experience to shop for fruit and vegetables, etc. there than in the panic buy environment of supermarkets.

It was very quiet around Fremantle last night with hospitality providers struggling to do the right thing and create the 4 square metre distance between patrons the Federal Government is demanding. At the Synagogue every second table was off limits to create distance between the patrons, and that worked well in the outdoor area where I sat with a friend.

So far though the rules appear ambiguous. Could cafes create larger tables by putting two or three together and thus creating space between the tables, but are strangers allowed to sit together at large bench tables that we see at Bread in Common for example?

We all will have to adapt an relax and embrace it as a community challenge. We will get through it, and most of us unharmed!
