FUN FILLED FREO SUNDAY

GG

It’s a perfect Fremantle Sunday to do lots of things and connect with our community.

Start the day with our own Growers Green Farmers Market at Fremantle College on Lefroy Road from 8am till midday.

From there up to Princess May Park where Clancy’s has put up Smoking in the Port with lots of BBQs, smokers, food tips and samples, chilli, etc. Starts at 11 am.

From 2-4 pm Bongziwe Mabandla will perform at the free Fremantle Arts Centre concert.

The South African has created a truly unmatched Afro-folk sound. Singing in both Xhosa and English, Mabandla fuses elements of hip-hop and dub with soul and traditional Xhosa music. With hypnotic vocals, heartfelt lyrics and beat-heavy grooves, he has the ability to move from melancholic melodies to crowd-surfing riot.

And from 5 to 9pm you can enjoy yourselves with the Harbour Sounds on the deck of the Maritime Museum on Victoria Quay. Free entry.

There is a lot less humidity in Fremantle today after three rather unpleasant sticky days, so head out and enjoy the Freo lifestyle!

There is the monthly BIG Growers Green Farmers Market and craft market on at Lefroy Road till midday and it’s looking good back in the old location. YUM breakfast, fresh produce, bread, etc.

Hugh Jennings will be performing at the FREE Fremantle Arts Centre Sunday courtyard music session from 2-4pm.

Hugh played in seminal Perth bands Autopilot, End of Fashion, The Avenues, Bob Evans, Eskimo Joe and more. With his new band he’ll perform songs from his long awaited pop/folk debut album Hound.

And from 5pm the FREE Harbour Sounds concerts are on upstairs on the deck of the Maritime Museum at Victoria Quay.

Freo. Perfect one day, even better the next!

FRUITS&VEGIES AND HOWLS

There can be comfort in routine, so why not follow my Sunday routine with a visit to the Growers Green Farmers Market in the morning and then the free courtyard music session at the Fremantle Arts Centre in the afternoon.

Great breakfasts, fresh produce, bread, etc. at the Lefroy Road markets from 8 am till midday. Try some of the Dutch flavourites at the Treacle Treat stall of my friend Linda!

The Fremantle Arts Centre has Dan Howls on show from 2-4pm, who has quickly won fans with his dark blues guitar and gravelly vocals.

With a voice likened to Tom Waits, a new EP and a full band, come and see why Howls is generating so much buzz. He’ll be supported by local songwriter Ashby Ranson (WA).

It’s going to be a perfect day to be out and about in Fremantle and connect with your community, so don’t be a couch potato!

An early reminder that the lovely Fremantle GROWERS GREEN FARMERS MARKETS, have relocated back to their old spot at Lefroy Road at Fremantle College.

The market has been a great meeting place for locals and beyond and is the perfect place to buy fresh produce, bread, and lots of other yummy things, as well as delicious breakfast and coffee.

There is live music, the animal touch farm from Farmer Damian, face painting.

It’s lovely to sit on a rug under the trees and engage with your local community.

A couple of arty photos I took this morning of the Fremantle Growers Green Farmers Market that has been relocated to its old spot next to the brand new modern Fremantle College building.

Redtents events owner Kylie Wheatley now is also the owner of Freo’s favourite market after the school was reluctant to continue with it.

The proximity to Lefroy Road and parking at TAFE opposite the college will no doubt see the market return to its huge popularity soon.

The market is open till midday today and every Sunday from 8am till 12 noon.

Support our local small businesses!

BOM predicts that it will get very wet for a few days from late this afternoon, so make sure to go and enjoy the outdoors while you can today.

Tripl J UNEARTHED winner Stella Donnelly will be performing her emotive songs at the free Fremantle Arts Centre concerts from 2-4pm, supported by Mei Sarawati.

Stella’s emotive song writing and intriguing stage presence make her performances an unforgettable experience.

The homely Growers Green Farmers Market is back at Lefroy Street from 8am till midday, so head out there for yummy breakfasts, coffee, breads, fresh produce, eggs, organic stuff, etc.

And it is the last day of the Fenians Fremantle Festival, so check out the events on their Facebook page. I hope the Hougoumont Street Dinner tonight will not be too wet.

There is a very good exhibition about the Fenians at the Fremantle Prison.
