It is going to be a perfect Sunday for parents, grandparents or family members and friends to take the children to the Fremantle CBD and go on a hunt to find the ten dinosaurs placed all over the inner city.

They move and make noise, and they are pretty impressive and a bit scary, so great school holiday entertainment for kids.

There are maps available from the Visitor Centre at Kings Square!

Of course the Freo Farmers Market is also on at Fremantle College from 8am till midday, and the free courtyard music session is on at the Fremantle Arts Centre from 2-4pm.

Kids have something special to look forward to at the start of the new year with huge moving dinosaurs around the Fremantle CBD

I discovered five of them early this morning, and am aware there is also one at Clancy’s in Princess May Park. There are a total of seven, I believe, so go hunting for them kids!

PS: Ian Kerr made me aware there is actually a map with the locations of the dinosaurs, so here it is.

UK PROMOTION FOR CRUISING WA

I reported a few weeks a go that the Vasco da Gama cruiseliner will call Fremantle Port home this coming summer season and now the WA State Government has announced that it is doing a co-operative marketing partnership with leading UK-based CMV Australia to boost WA cruise tourism.

The marketing campaign that will be promoted in the UK will offer a new range of WA-focused fly, cruise, rail and stay packages and feature a complete WA holiday experience.

Getting more people into Fremantle needs to remain a priority for our local council and state government.

Yesterday Fremantle was packed with people, especially the Fishing Boat Harbour, Winter World, Cappuccino Strip and Fremantle Markets, bu I noticed two High Street traders standing outside to look why there were so few people in that part of town. Somehow the West End needs to be activated to entice more people to wander down Freo’s most beautiful heritage street.

EMERALD PRINCESS VISITS FREMANTLE

The 1134,000-tonne superliner Emerald Princess arrived in Fremantle this morning on her first visit to Australia.

The very impressive huge ship is one of the largest cruise ships in the Princess fleet and has nearly 900 balcony staterooms and can accommodate 3082 passengers.

I was invited to visit the ship today and have lunch at the Curtis Stone restaurant but unfortunately was booked in for a First Aid training course, so I missed out on a nice lunch.

Spare Parts EYP

It is really good to see how popular the Fremantle ESPLANADE YOUTH PLAZA is. The place was packed today with kids and families, doing all sorts of activities, and a couple of police officers also keeping an eye on it. But it is a very peaceful and respectful environment at the EYP and that is one of the best things of it all.

At the Spare Parts Theatre the FARM play is on but also the School of Puppetry doing workshops for kids, and outside in Pioneer Park there are big colourful figures made by the people of the wheatbelt town of Merredin.

FREO NEEDS CAMPERS SOLUTIONS

mole camping

Parking of campervans is again posing a problem in Fremantle and will get even worse during the summer months, with backpackers ignoring the no parking signs on the South and North Mole at the port and at South Beach.

The idea to lock up the moles during the night is not a good one as it affects people fishing from there and those who like a bit of romantic sightseeing in the dark. It would also only shift the problems and make it worse for South Beach and that is not fair to those who frequent that beach.

There is either a problem with not enough space for campervans at Woodman Point or the backpackers don’t want to pay for legal camping and that needs to be addressed.

In Broome during the busy tourist months they used to use one of the sports ovals as an overflow caravan park at Roebuck Bay, so maybe this is something the City of Fremantle should look into. If the problem is not enough space at Woodman Point, could we make a part of Fremantle Park or Princess May Park available at reduced costs and what would the implications be as far as health regulations go because there would be no showers and toilets.

Backpackers are important for our tourism industry, so somehow we need to be flexible in accommodating their needs. Any bright ideas anyone out there?
