I woke up to the smell of smoke early this morning and noticed there is quite a bit of haze over Fremantle, as the photo I took of of Fremantle Port shows.

We have had some amazing sunsets lately, so take advantage of the stunning weather because it will be changing after the weekend with a cold front coming in.

SMOKE HAZE MAKES FREO SMELLING LIKE A BBQ

It smells in Fremantle this morning as if a huge BBQ is going on somewhere, but it is smoke haze from down south, that also makes it quite hazy.

It made for a lovely photo of the SS Leeuwin II at Victoria Quay, with port cranes at North Quay in the background.

SMOKE HAZE OVER FREMANTLE

I got up a few hours later than I normally do on a Saturday morning but there was still plenty of smog around when I drove onto the Fremantle South Mole.

Fog always reminds me of my youth in the Netherlands where we had plenty of it and where my newspaper run on the bicycle sometimes could take twice as long because I could not see further than twenty metres.

Nice also to bump into Diana on Victoria Quay who was taking photos for the lovely on-line magazine: http://fremantleshippingnews.com.au

BUSH FIRE SMOKE BLANKETS FREMANTLE

smoke 1 smoke 2

Not sure we should be too worried about passive smoking in Fremantle when the bush fire smoke blankets our city far too often. Some morons set fire near Kwinana yesterday and one could barely see the Freo Townhall from the Roundhouse in the afternoon.

This is what it looked like at Bathers Beach.

SMOKE HAZE TO STAY FOR A WHILE

smoke haze

With a heat wave expected on the weekend and beyond the smoke haze over the city is likely to stay, and I’ll check it out at sunrise today. While it is not very good for our health it creates stunning orange-coloured sunsets.

Here a photo I took at Victoria Quay at Fremantle harbour on midday on Friday.

SMOGING IS BAD FOR YOU

Posted in fremantle, health, smoke by freoview on February 6, 2015

I woke up from the intense smell of smoke last night and there was quite a bit of smog over Fremantle early this morning.

I must admit I quite like the smell of natural smoke that comes from the bush fires, but I feel for people who suffer from asthma. No doubt the sea breeze will blow all the smoke inland later in the day but I wonder if the announced heatwave will blanket the metropolitan area in smog over the weekend.

Here some photos taken from Monument Hill around 8 am.
