FREMANTLE CHAMBER ORCHESTRA CELEBRATES 15 YEARS

Fac 2

Fifteen years ago Solomon Street resident Hans Hug, who is a passionate cellist, started the Fremantle Chamber Orchestra, and what a great success it has been.

The first concert for the FCO was with guitarist Milica Ilic, who had just graduated at UWA and the audience were blown away, so Hans decided that the orchestra should continue, as there was no other chamber orchestra in WA.

The master stroke of Hans Hug was to convince his friend Rudolf Koelman, who is one of the world’s leading violinists, to come and play with the FCO, and that has become a yearly tradition since.

Koelman will be there again this Saturday February 15 when the Fremantle Chamber Orchestra plays at the John Curtin College of the Arts theatre in Ellen Street at 3pm.

The program is Mendelsohnn, Saint-Saens, Cuneo and Mozart.

Whenever Rudolf Koelman plays with the Fremantle Chamber Orchestra I get tears in my eyes, as the violin virtuoso is sublime.

Don’t miss out on this great concert, and support this Fremantle group.

There is a second concert on Sunday at the Government House Ballroom at 3pm, so that is a chance to hear Koelman twice on the weekend.
