DRAFT VISION FOR EAST FREMANTLE OVAL PROJECT

The Town of East Fremantle has published a draft vision report for the East Fremantle Oval Precinct Revitalisation Project.

See it all here: https://www.eastfremantle.wa.gov.au/Profiles/eastfremantle/Assets/ClientData/Documents/Governance/PUBLIC_CONSULTATION__East_Freo_OvalPrecinct_VisionReportFeb2019_LR_.pdf

CONSENSUS STATEMENTS TO GUIDE REVITALISATION (PRINCIPLES)

The precinct should be revitalised

A community and sporting space that is open to all

An inter-generational, inter-connected open space

A sporting precinct – with or without WAFL games

Preference to retain the entire precinct as a Class A Reserve

Affordable and equitable revitalisation with multiple funding options

Improve physical and visual accessibility into the precinct

Create shared facilities that meet the needs of clubs and community

Preference to retain the social heritage of existing clubs

Maximise use of existing areas, and better utilise underused space

There are two vision concepts with Vision Concept 1 Opening The Park, which supports to retain the current functional arrangements on site with the least/minimal intervention and extensive landscaping.

Vision Concept 2 Community Hub, supports the oval as a community hub in the heart of the precinct, surrounded by parklands which maximise connectivity, and visual aesthetic to all boundaries.

East Fremantle Council has stated it prefers the East Fremantle Football Club to stay at the oval and not as was flagged move to  Fremantle Oval and share facilities and playing ground with the South Fremantle Football Club.

FREE PARKING FOR FEMALE FREMANTLE DOCKERS GAMES?

Posted in afl, city of fremantle, fremantle dockers, local government, parking, Uncategorized by freoview on February 19, 2019

There are a lot of people around who have easy, but often very unrealistic, solutions for just about everything.

A letter in today’s West Australian by R.Correla of Beaconsfield fits in that category.

Correla writes that the City of Fremantle should provide free parking one hour before and three hours after the Fremantle Dockers women’s team games at Fremantle Oval.

But those games are on weekends when Fremantle is at its busiest and where the lack of inner city parking is often complained about. Parking fees are also a substantial source of income for the City and council rates would need to be increased if more free parking were to be provided.

It is also quite insulting from R.Correla to say Fremantle needs more smart people on council, and not a minority who are only about themselves. Fremantle Council is far from perfect, but the elected members do their best to make the right decisions for our community.

May I suggest to R.Correla to actually attend and observe council meetings. It’s always good to be informed first hand, rather than making ignorant assumptions and accusations.

EPIC JOURNEY FOR MODERN DESIGN

When you think about explorers, forget Burke and Wills, Dampier, Cook, Hartog, Tasman and Flinders and start thinking Loopy instead.

I double checked so that I would not claim anything that can’t be substantiated, but when I Googled epic journeys, the journey I just completed did not even appear, probably because it was far too daunting a task for even the bravest to contemplate.

So here I am claiming to be the very first person ever to have walked all the way from the Perth train station to the new Perth Stadium and back. I endured hardship in the East Perth wilderness where food and water were hard to find, and I suffered from exposure, heat stress and dehydration, but I survived.

And I endured all that because I love creative modern structures and needed to see the Matagarup Bridge over the Swan river with my own eyes, and it’s a beauty!

Yet, I pondered that one major question on the train back to my beloved Freo. If the State Government can build such and expansive and expensive new footbridge for a stadium that operates mainly on weekends, why can’t it build a much-needed new rail and traffic bridge at Fremantle that will be used 24/7?

HAVE FREO FUN THIS HOT SUNDAY

the wilds

Nice that summer has finally arrived in Fremantle with another 40 degree day on Sunday.

Slip, slap, slop and go enjoy all the events that are on.

Starting of course with the weekly Gowers Green Farmers Markets at Fremantle College from 8am till midday.

After that head to Bathers Beach from noon on for beach football, and then from 2-4pm go listen to the alt-country troubadours The Wilds at the Fremantle Arts Centre.

vq markets

When you leave the FAC the seabreeze will have started to cool down the day a bit so make your way to Victoria Quay for the foodtrucks market from 4-9pm.

Freo is fun, so take advantage of it!

HUGE CROWDS AT WEST COAST EAGLES CELEBRATION

Posted in afl, city of fremantle, football, sport, Uncategorized by freoview on September 30, 2018

premiers AAA

I know there are a lot of West Coast Eagles footy fans in Fremantle, even when some Dockers supporters believe that one needs to hate the Weagles when one loves the Dockers.

So I hopped on the train to Langley Park in Perth to get a glimpse of the celebrations of the new AFL premiers, who did not end up with the wooden spoon.

Thousands made the long pilgrimage from  the Esplanade train station to the far east end of Langley Park and the queues to get the very first and freshly printed Premiers merchandise were huge already at 12.30 pm as these photos show.

I am not a big fan of big crowds so hopped back on the train and did not wait for the team to arrive.

Go the Eagles!! I hope the premiership of their local rivals inspires the insipid Dockers.

FOOTY AND MUSIC FUN AT RECLINK CUP

Posted in charity, city of fremantle, community, football, music, Uncategorized by freoview on September 7, 2018

Reclink timeline

The RECLINK COMMUNITY CUP is on tomorrow-Saturday at Fremantle Oval, so head out there for an afternoon of footy fun and an evening of music, while raising money for charity.

Gates open at midday and close at 10pm, so make it a day out.

Expect to see media personalities and musicians battling it out on the footy field, where they will be joined by WA Treasurer Ben Wyatt, Federal Freo Labor MP Josh Wilson, and Freo Councillor Adin Lang.

The Kill Devil Hills will be playing from 5pm-5.40, so that’s pretty cool as well.

And Mayor Brad Pettitt will be the DJ. Just hoping our Greeny Mayor won’t just be playing a loop of Greensleeves all day. ; >)
