Fremantle will celebrate all things Italian on Sunday April 17 from 11 am till 9 pm when the SAGRA food and culture festival is held at Kings Square.

Sagra events are traditionally held in Italian villages and small cities to celebrate local produce, culture and the community. It’s all about home-made food, wine and beer, while enjoying local folk dance and music.

It’s a perfect event to catch up with friends and family. It is free with food and drinks for sale.

RELAX AT FREMANTLE ARTS CENTRE SUNDAY CONCERT

Posted in fremantle, fremantle arts centre by freoview on March 20, 2016

There are not many of the free Sunday Music concerts at the Fremantle Arts Centre left for the season so go and enjoy JODIE TESS and the PUPULAR FRONT today from 2-4 pm.

Enjoy the pop-rock with a distinct jazz influence by the WAM Award winner under the trees while sipping on a nice glass of wine from the bar. The cafe and pizza bar are also open, so no need to go hungry.

LET’S HAVE A NORTH FREO FESTIVAL THIS YEAR!

Propellor

I had a nice chat this morning with former Fremantle Councillor Robert Fittock at the lovely Propellor Cafe in North Fremantle, where we talked about all things Freo.

One idea that came out of the meeting was to hold an evening event in that area for the Fremantle Festival this year. I am thinking market, music, food vans, all antique shops open, music stage by Mojos, cafes and others coming out on to the street. A real community festival that makes the Fremantle Festival less cbd-centric and will give North Fremantle people the feeling they actually belong to Fremantle and are appreciated and looked after, because many believe rightly or wrongly that the City of Fremantle is neglecting them.

What do you think festival Director Alex Marshall? Can we have a discussion about this, and maybe Red Tents Events’ Kylie Wheatley would like to be involved? I am happy to be involved and help organise and Robert Fittock has also offered to liaise with the locals, as he lives up that way.

GREAT MUSIC VIBES AT MARITIME MUSEUM

Posted in fremantle, music by freoview on February 15, 2016

The Harbour Sundays concert by the Eduardo Cossio jazz trio at the Fremantle Maritime Museum was very popular and no wonder. What a great location for events and having a drink, while watching the sun set over the Indian Ocean.

The balcony at the museum is not used often enough and not open to the public and I believe that should change because the Freo community is missing out on one of the best locations in town.

For future concerts it would be nice to have a food van at the steps so people can buy a pizza or so because the 5-9pm time slot is dinner time and a packet of crisps is not enough.

The events are part of the Freo Fringe Festival and there are 3 more to come, so check out the museum website to find out who will be playing next Sunday.

SOUTHBOUND CANCELLED DUE TO BUSH FIRES!

Posted in music by freoview on January 7, 2016

This Facebook message from Sunset Events came just through, so please pass it on. SOUTHBOUND 2016 IS CANCELLED DUE TO THE BUSH FIRES.

URGENT: SOUTHBOUND 2016 CANCELLED

It is with great regret that we have to announce the cancellation of Southbound 2016, due to the fire situation in the festivals surrounding areas. After ongoing communications and information provided from the West Australian Police, Main Roads Department and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, we have no option but to cancel this year’s event. We cannot compromise patron safety and proceed knowing people’s lives are at risk getting to the event.

The only alternate route given both main highways are closed is now compromised. The alternative access to the event communicated earlier today is now only open for essential travel. As of news recently to hand festival patrons are now not able to use this road leaving us with no access to the festival site.

First and foremost our thoughts are with our local community of the South West, in what has been a challenging day, with more challenges to come. We give all our love and support to our local family in this intense time of stress.

The fire, which started Wednesday afternoon and reached emergency status during the night and into Thursday morning, has left us with no time to relocate prior to gates opening tomorrow.

“Everyone on site is absolutely devastated as we were working so hard to bring the best Southbound yet. Please understand at this time we will be extremely busy dealing with the cancellation and our thoughts are with those in danger due to the nearby fire.” David Chitty, Director.

Information regarding ticket refunds will be released on Wednesday 13th January. Please rest assured Southbound patrons will receive a full refund on tickets purchased via official channels. Please sit tight at this time until further information is made available on Wednesday.

For a full list of road closures, visit mainroads.wa.gov.au and to keep updated with all alerts and warnings, visit http://www.dfes.wa.gov.au/alerts/Pages/default.aspx.
