The very popular market continues to go from strength to strength and will have a bumper day at Bruce Lee Oval in Beaconsfield on Sunday May 12 from 8am till noon.

There will be over 70 stalls including many massage and health therapists attending on the special day, so Mum can get the pampering she deserves. To capture memories of the Freo Farmers Market Mother’s Day a free photo booth will be there, with prints for everyone.

Musician Ari Davies will provide the music on the morning, and Lady Bird’s Fairy Sandy, and Farmer Damian’s Moobile Farm animals will keep the kids entertained

There will be a Big Raffle with great prizes. Tickets are already being sold and can be purchased in the lead up to Mother’s Day, with the draw happening at 12 noon. The raffle money raised will be donated to “Nectar for Women” with the Fremantle Foundation.

HEART OF BEACONSFIELD PLANS CHANGES

Posted in Uncategorized by freoview on March 24, 2023

Unlike the West Australian, that puts EXCLUSIVE in bold letters, accompanied by flashing lights and fireworks, even above articles already published in community newspapers and blogs, the Fremantle Herald is far more modest.

Today our local beloved Chook EXCLUSIVELY published an article about changes to the development plans of the Heart of Beaconsfield on the former TAFE site. (I just received a media release about it from the State Government.)

Good to read that Development WA has reduced the height of the proposed buildings slightly, with an eight-storey limit proposed for Lefroy Road, that would be overlooking Fremantle College, and there would also be some five-storey buildings at Badham Close, but the majority of the proposed buildings would only be three-storeys high.

No commercial development is planned, but an additional green space will be created, whilst a cafe might be considered, if deemed commercially viable in that location.

Seven-star rating and solar PV-systems are on the cards, as well as local stormwater infiltration for landscaping.

A modest 20 per cent social housing is also in the plans.

FREO FARMERS MARKET THE ESSENCE SOUL OF FREMANTLE

Posted in Uncategorized by freoview on December 11, 2022

Fremantle Council will this coming Wednesday decide if they will grant the Freo Farmers Market a three year license for the use of Bruce Lee Oval, to run the very popular Sunday morning market there.

The Freo Farmers Market sadly has to leave Fremantle College, so they need to relocate.

The agenda item proposes that the City of Fremantle sponsors the market with an 80 per cent waiver of fees, to a total of $ 43,248 per year. Market operator Kylie Wheatley would still be required to pay $ 15,667 yearly for waste services, $ 95 per year for application fee, plus $ 546 annually for environmental health compliance fees.

The license would be for three years, with an option for another three years, based on performance assessment by the City.

I believe Fremantle Council absolutely should support the relocation to Bruce Lee Oval! The Freo Farmers Market is not just a place for the community to buy fresh produce, bread, fish, eggs, etc. on a Sunday morning, but it is a very important meeting place, where Fremantle people gather, catch up with friends, and make new friends.

It is a safe place for families and older people, but it is also the livelihood of more than 50 stall operators. It is an incubator for new businesses and local musicians, who might get their very first gig at the FFM.

The Freo Farmers Market is the essence of Fremantle and our multiculturalism. It is the soul of our community, a place for the lonely, the shy, the arty, the foodies, and for the extrovert and eccentric. It is the most Very Freo event in Fremantle.

It needs and deserves our support, and it needs to continue as the most regular community hub and gathering place in our city.

IS MOVING BRUCE LEE OVAL A FREO OPTION?

Posted in city of fremantle, community, local government, recreation, sport, Uncategorized by freoview on September 27, 2018

The City of Fremantle will undertake a feasibility study to assess options for the future use of Bruce Lee Oval and the Lefroy Road Quarry as part of a plan to guide the revitalisation of the Heart of Beaconsfield.

The Heart of Beaconsfield project is a co-operation between the City, the Department of Communities and other partners to coordinate the redevelopment of the area around the Davis Park precinct, Bruce Lee Oval, Lefroy Road Quarry and the former South Metropolitan TAFE site.

Fremantle Mayor Brad Pettitt said a key question to be settled in planning the Heart of Beaconsfield is the best use for Bruce Lee Oval and the Lefroy Road Quarry.

The quarry site has the potential to provide 1.5 times more green space than the oval, so there’s an opportunity to develop new and better sporting facilities on the quarry and allow for some new diversified housing on the oval,” Mayor Pettitt said.

South Street is an important public transport corridor and it makes sense to have residential development close to public transport, while the quarry site is vacant land and there’s not a lot it can be used for.”

The study will show if it’s technically and financially feasible to relocate the oval, so before the City finalises the draft masterplan they are conducting the feasibility study to find out.

If the study shows the relocation of the oval is not feasible the oval will be retained in the draft masterplan. If it is feasible this option may be put forward to Council for further consultation. Regardless of the outcome of the study, the community will have the chance to have their say and the masterplan can still be amended before it’s officially adopted.

The oval feasibility study will take up to six months. The full Heart of Beaconsfield draft masterplan is expected to be released for public comment mid next year.
