IT’S BEST MUM IN THE WORLD DAY

Posted in aboriginal, children, city of fremantle, family, mothers, mothers day, Uncategorized by freoview on May 12, 2019

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY! to all those special mums out there.

It is too often forgotten how much you sacrifice for your child(ren) and that child birth often means that the career of a woman comes to a screeching halt.

It is especially demanding for single mothers to bring up children, so we salute you!

Many mothers care for their child(ren) at home until they enroll in school and often that means it is very difficult to get back into the work force and restart one’s career.

Those of us who no longer have a mum remember her fondly for the special home-cooked meals, and caring love.

Children sometimes take the dedication, nurturing and love of their mum for granted, so today all mums deserve to be spoiled rotten. Enjoy it.

And a special thought goes out to those Aboriginal mums whose child(dren) were taken away from them during the Stolen Generations times. My thoughts are with you!

WOMEN HAVE A RIGHT TO EQUALITY!

Posted in fremantle, international women's day, women by freoview on March 8, 2016

It is INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY today, so here a small tribute to all women around the world, especially those who still have to fight for basic rights and equality. It is also a tribute to my very strong mother Annie and my equally strong sisters Marja, Bep and Anita.

I was amazed to learn last night on Q&A on ABC TV that women and girls in Australia still earn substantially less than men, even at executive levels where men on average receive $ 100,000 a year more than women in similar positions. It was also a surprised to learn that often girls receive less pocket money from their parents than their brothers do.

It’s time to let go off gender discrimination as it is ridiculous. Women rock!

TEAM AUSTRALIA? NO, TONY’S TEAM!

Posted in australia by freoview on August 19, 2014

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott is a thought-bubble kind of guy, like many of his ministers. The PM called for all people who live in our country to be part of “Team Australia” but he forgot that the coaching staff and team selectors of “Team Australia” are not that inclusive when it comes to who can play in our country.

Disabled people, Aboriginese, pensioners, single mothers, university students, the unemployed, asylum seekers, motorists, etc.etc.etc. are all not part of the team, or if they are, they are supposed to bring their own ball, have their own sports ground, and they can’t expect any support from that great Australia team.

“Team Australia” is not about looking after one’s team mates because it is only an opportunity for a select few.  Tony’s Team would be a much better name for “Team Australia” because that would indicate that Tony decide who can be on the team.

To have a real Team Australia we would need a much better and more compassionate coach….. Prime Minister.

FREO J SHED ART AS REST FOR NEW MOTHERS

Posted in art, fremantle by freoview on August 27, 2013

This is the beautiful seat created for the King Edward Memorial Hospital in Subiaco by Fremantle J Shed ceramic artist Jenny Dawson in collaboration with indigenous artists Jilalga Murray and Elsie Woods. It’s meant as a kind of outdoor meeting place where new mothers and their babies can meet with family and friends.

FREO’S J SHED ART REST FOR NEW MUMS

Posted in art, fremantle by freoview on July 29, 2013

The creative production line at  J Shed on Bathers Beach is very impressive. Just after having installed her huge sundial public art work in Port Hedland, Fremantle J Shed artist Jenny Dawson is creating another stunning piece. Here a quick preview glimpse at another wonderful ceramic work that will installed as a large bench seat with back, plus four individual small round seats, at the King Edward Memorial Hospital in Subiaco, for new mothers, their babies and their families to enjoy.

The work was done in collaboration with Nyoongar artists Jilalga Murray and Elsie Woods, with some twigs and leaves of native flora embedded into the ceramic tiles.

Installation of the artwork at the hospital will be next week if the weather permits, so I’ll show it here on the blog then.

SPOIL YOUR MUM ROTTEN TODAY!

Posted in fremantle by freoview on May 13, 2012

In a world of more, where we constantly want more, without really needing more, it is important to contemplate that more is not always better. Mothers are proof of that.

We only have one mother, that special woman that gave birth to us, and then sacrificed so much of her life to look after us and to give us a future.

Those mothers lucky enough to live in good relationships, like my mum, have the support of their partners, but single mothers especially deserve even more praise, because raising children is even harder for them.

Today is the day where we should all think about that most special person in our life, no matter how old we are. My mum’s name is Annie. She was born in September 1916 and died at the age of 82. She worked very hard all her life, looking after five children and a corner shop. I wished I could have told her more often, and much longer, how much I value what she did for me.

If you still have your mother, spoil her rotten today! She is the one who definitely deserves more!!

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY ALL YOU SPECIAL MUMS OUT THERE!
