c-1

A funky new cafe and clothes shop has opened at Elder Place opposite the Fremantle railway station. The Calypso Warehouse looks inviting, cosy and cute, so check it out when you are down that way.

They sell women and men clothing, coffee and other things.

It is on the corner of the Wilson carpark and next to CODA architects.

Sadly further in town at the Piazza the Red Cherries coffee bar has closed but they now operate the cafe in the Fremantle Markets food yard section on weekends.

VERY FREO BLINCO STREET FLEA MARKET

Posted in fremantle, hospitality, markets by freoview on April 24, 2016

What a lovely atmosphere today at the Blinco Street Cafe FLEA MARKET in the very arty and hippy Fremantle Fibonacci Centre, and how nice to see so many people turn up to grab a bargain, listen to live music, catch up with friends and have an excellent coffee and meal at the cute little cafe.

I hope they will make this into a regular once a month event during the colder months.

If you haven’t been to the Blinco Street Cafe go and try it out. Tomorrow morning they will open at 4.30 am to cater for the people who attend the ANZAC DAY dawn service, so go and grab a cuppa on your way to Monument Hill! The cafe is only a three-minute walk away from it.

PERTH FASHION FESTIVAL AT BATHERS BEACH

Posted in events, fashion, fremantle by freoview on July 19, 2015

It looks like Fremantle will have a big Perth Fashion Festival event at Bathers Beach on November 29 this year. The proposal is on the agenda of this Wednesday’s Strategic Planning and Services Committee and would see the boardwalk and area near it blocked off from the general public all of that Sunday, with the boardwalk being used as the catwalk for the models to show the latest local fashion designs.

The Bathers Beach House operators would extend the licensed area and become part of the ticketed event that no doubt would bring glamour and socialites to our inner city beach.

Another big DJ music event at Leighton Beach is also up for Council approval on Wednesday, so Council needs to be careful not to overdo it and make the same mistakes with our beaches as it has done with the overused and struggling Esplanade. Public open spaces are there for all to enjoy and there should only be a few events a year that restrict access for the general public.

And no bean bags on the beaches please. Last year thousands of small balls were polluting Leighton after a music event, so bean bags should be banned as part of the City of Fremantle approval for such events.

I am looking forward to another great summer, the Bathers Beach Sunset Food Markets and all the festivals, but let’s spread them out so that not only inner city people are inconvenienced by events.

CLOTHES RAISE FUNDS FOR NEPAL VICTIMS

Posted in earthquake, fremantle, nepal by freoview on May 23, 2015

There was a good atmosphere in the Fremantle Notre Dame university Drillhall last evening with many people browsing through a large number of clothes brought in for the CLOTHES SWAP FOR NEPAL fundraiser organised by Acacia Armstrong.

I don’t know how many people attended and how much money was raised but there was also a silent auction of bicycles generously donated. There will be a few more of them at the Concert for Nepal on June 13, so book your tickets!
