COME DISCOVER FREMANTLE’S BATHERS BEACH!

The lack of popularity of one of Fremantle’s most gorgeous beaches continues to amaze me. There was hardly a parking spot left at South Beach at 6.30 last evening but only a handful of people were swimming at inner city Bathers Beach around that time.

There is a lot of parking in a short walking distance from Bathers Beach, there are showers, change rooms, and many hospitality venues to buy food and drinks from, so why do people have the herd mentality and rather be at the other very crowded Freo beaches where parking is often an issue?

It will get worse as they will be closing off West End streets as well, so a bit of traditional traffic chaos to be expected and that won’t please affected cafes.

The public toilets at the Esplanade are currently fenced off for the Laneway “Fencetival” – oh and the carpark is closed.

I don’t get it Roel. You’re so often saying there arent enough people at the west end of Freo but everytime I visit the area is packed. The fishing boat harbour, bathers beach, boardwalk and the Esplanade are full of people all summer. It’s plenty busy enough!

Plenty of toilets at the fish&chips and the public toilet at the Esplanade is just overtime railway line.

Not if you park at South Beach and catch the CAT bus to Bathers beach.

No toilets, shade, grass, dogs, pontoon, etc. at Bathers Beach. Plus heaps of seaweed. It’s clearly treated as a second rate beach by the city so gets the same treatment from the people.
Maybe more people will come to Bather’s when all 20 of Fremantle’s basketball players get to build their court and displace hundreds of people who currently relax in the grass there.

If we’re adding suggestions for the city – build some bathrooms, plant some trees or install shade, add some night lights, address the seaweed, and maybe even surf lifesavers?!? Or just build that ocean pool – that thing would be a major draw.
