Posted in Uncategorized by freoview on November 21, 2023

Two Fremantle heritage properties are among the recipients of the $ 1.2 million WA State Government Heritage Grants, Minister David Templeman announced.

The Tarantella building in Mouat Street and the Lionell Samson one in Cliff Street each received $ 50,000, that needs to be matched by the property owners.

FREMANTLE’S FANTASTIC FACADES

Posted in Uncategorized by freoview on August 15, 2022

I never get enough of the beautiful heritage facades in Fremantle’s historic West End, so on a leisurely walk through sunny Freo yesterday I took the above photos of High, Mouat and Cliff streets.

The Heritage Grants Program helps to tell Western Australia’s story by promoting investment in conservation works, interpretation and engagement activities for State Registered Heritage Places.

The State Heritage Grants stream offers matched funding for conservation works projects of up to $40,000, and a maximum of $16,000 for documentation projects. A Major Conservation Projects funding category, providing up to $100,000 is available to private owners of State Heritage Registered places, where the projects demonstrate exemplary heritage outcomes with wider benefit.

The Community Heritage Grants Stream can assist with projects ($20,000 matched funding) related to the interpretation of State registered places or places on the Heritage Council’s assessment program, and events promoting best practice conservation.

The State Heritage Grants stream of the Heritage Grants Program can assist with the future-proofing of heritage places through providing funding assistance for natural disaster mitigation planning and works. Owners of places on the Heritage Council’s assessment program are eligible to apply to the program for funding to assist with the development of a Conservation Management Plan.

Applications close 5pm, Friday 30 September 2022. More information can be found on the website.

The WA Heritage Council has announced that two Fremantle buildings will receive a heritage grant this year, so that is good news.

The St John’s Anglican church at Kings Square will receive $ 87,812.04 for the repair of the collapsing northwest corner of the church and stabilisation work on the building.

The developers of 3 Pakenham Street will get $ 40,105.10 for reinstating the tuckpointing of the facade of what is in the process of becoming the Republic of Fremantle tavern, gin distillery and micro-brewerey.

There are a lot of really good things happening in Fremantle that will set up our city on a course of revival.
