THE GREAT FREMANTLE FREOPEDIA PROJECT
If you would like to find out what FREOPEDIA is all about, why not join a walking tour this Wednesday, September 11, as part of the Meeting Place program. It starts at 10 am in front of the Round House and will introduce you to this smartphone QR code historic information app that was conceived by the Fremantle Society in collaboration with Wikimedia. The tour is free and will be conducted by Wikimedian Gideon Digby. It will be a nice two-hour stroll through the west end of Fremantle.
Freopedia is a virtual smartphone historic tour guide of Fremantle. Small signs have been attached to buildings and monuments and can be read by your smartphone camera, this will link you to the relevant article on the Wikimedia cloud library about the sites. Wikimedia is multilingual, so over time the information will come up in the language the smartphone is set on, thus making it a great feature for tourism.
Fremantle is the first Wikitown in Australia and the Southern hemisphere!

Roel sounds like a good project for for freo high schools,
Covers computer science, English, history, some research, and community pride. All + for the schools/students involved and the community as a whole, pride is a positive driver in communities, especially in the younger age groups, great confidence builder
Perhaps the council could offer/organise incentives for schools to be involved.
Freo ambassadors, funding, TWA incentives etc.

We did one already, and the walk this week is the start of also introduction workshops at the Meeting Place on Freopedia and how to research and write articles, so we can put more plaques on buildings.

It requires people to write historic articles about all those buildings Robert, so we are hoping to get a grand to get a student to do many for us. It is a work in progress, so it will take time till we have done them all, but we are working on it. If you know anyone who would like to research buildings, or who already got historic information in digital form, please do send it to me.

There are, so far, no signs to be seen on buildings along High St.Particularly 72-74 High the oldest continuous shoe store since the 1800? Previously owned by Pearse Bros , shoe manufacturers in Nth Fremantle and superseded as Tenants in 1972 to present by Bodkins Bootery.
When is this likely please.
