The Shirase is in Fremantle, but before you Freo drunks get excited about the Japanese Grange Hermitage that you haven’t tried yet, it is not a wine but an icebreaker. ; >)

The SHIRASE(AGB-5003) was commissioned in 2009 and was named after Lieutenant Nobu Shirase, who was a pioneer of Antarctic exploration.

The tiny French wine bar Whisper in Fremantle Essex Street is very Freo. It’s only small but well worth a visit if you like French wine and food. Baguette flown in from Paris, duck terrine, etc. Magnifique!

PROPELLING TO FUNKY TOWN

Posted in cafe, fremantle, hospitality by freoview on December 19, 2014

The North Fremantle entertainment hub along Queen Victoria Street is more and more developing into ‘Funky Town” with great little cafes. It is in my opinion the perfect spot that cries out for a street market.

The PROPELLER Cafe is the latest kid on the block, just opposite the lovely Habitue restaurant and behind the war memorial. It shares great mural art with the Matilda’s Antique Centre and works out of a sea container. Also in ‘Funky Town” are Momo’s, Short Black Sheep, Mrs Brown and Flipside.

VERY AUSSIE BATHERS BEACH HOUSE

Posted in fremantle by freoview on October 4, 2014

Bathers Beach House

Fremantle BATHERS BEACH HOUSE got their liquor license approved this week, so the new venture in the former Fishermens’ Co-op building should be up and running by mid November.

Here are some more details about what is going to happen on the  beach site at the Indian Ocean.

Bathers Beach House is a two level venue and will occupy approximately one third of the fully- renovated building. The ground level will house a dining space and bar areas. It will have a quintessentially Australian flavour to the menu, a wide range of local craft beers plus international favourites together with an eclectic range of local wines and a few international additions.

The first floor has an amazing panoramic view along the coast and it will be a flexible functions space that can be used for almost any occasion. Downstairs will cater for 270 people, whilst upstairs could cater for as many as 330 people.

The northern side of Bathers Beach House will feature alfresco dining areas and it will also be offering a kiosk service from the northern side of the building.

BBH will be posting regular progress updates   on their website at http://www.bathersbeachhouse.com.au

SAIL AND CLANCY’S BEST PUBS IN W.A.

Posted in alcohol, fremantle by freoview on October 3, 2014

Congratulations to the Fremantle  Sail&Anchor and Clancy’s Fish Pub for being in the top ten of Australia’s best beer establishments in the inaugural Beer&Brewer magazine list.

The Sail came in at number six and Clancy’s at number 8.

Malicious rumours that Clancys’ turnover is dramatically down because I stopped drinking alcohol six months ago, are unfounded. The good news is that I’ll have the odd sip of nice wine and a good old Guinness again as off next week. Half a year of abstinence is enough.

PERFECT WEATHER TO STAY AT HOME

Posted in fremantle, weather by freoview on September 27, 2014

It is a miserable wet, windy and cold day where any excuse to stay in should do. Watching the AFL grad final will be on the agenda for many, but just putting the feet up and read a good book will also be nice. A bit of lunch, some nice chocolate, maybe even a drop of nice red wine, could make it a pleasant dat after all, or just cuddle up with someone you love.

Here some photos I took around Fremantle this morning.

Don’t worry about the weather. Have a happy long weekend, Freo!
