It’s going to be quiet again in good old Freo with some 4,000 American sailors leaving today after four days of R&R here.

The USS Bonhomme Richard, USS Preble and USS Green Bay will take part in navy exercising north of here. Thank you for visiting Fremantle and boosting the retail economy. You have been very respectful visitors to our city.

FREO ARTS CENTRE’S U.S. NAVY HISTORY ON APP

Posted in fremantle by freoview on October 28, 2013

Great news for all those keenly interested in history. Fremantle Arts Centre in partnership with creative technology company Frame. AR has announced the launch of a new augmented reality iPad tour that traces the FAC site’s history as a US Navy Submarine depot during WWII.

From November 16 visitors to FAC will be able borrow free iPads pre-loaded with the Fremantle Arts Centre WWII Time Window App which digitally overlays historic content over the present day site. The Time Window app is also available to download for free on the user’s own device.
At specific nodes around the building, visitors can use the app to create a window back in time where American sailors, colourful locals and the building itself comes to life.

OZ BIGGEST CHOIR AT MARKETS TODAY

Posted in fremantle by freoview on July 10, 2011

The AUSTRALIAN GIRLS CHOIR, the longest running and biggest choir in Australia, will perform at the Fremantle Markets at 12.30 today, Sunday July 10.

This is the launch of the institution in Western Australia, which started in Melbourne in 1984 and is also in Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide.

These girls have sung at the Australian Open, for Oprah Winfrey and also at the G’Day USA Week in the United States.

Combine your fruit and vegies shopping at the markets today with a wee bit of culture. With luck you can listen to the choir while munching on a special burger at one of the outdoor tables at the new JUS Burgers.

P.S. Amazing! They have been performing as long as I have been in Western Australia! I arrived in Perth in September 1984 after having enjoyed Sydney for two and a half years.
