PERTH ELIZABETH LOW QUAY

Posted in elizabeth quay, fremantle, perth by freoview on January 30, 2016

I made my epic journey from Fremantle across the mighty roaring Swan river this morning to have a look at the Elizabeth Quay development in Perth and must say I am underwhelmed. It appears to be a whole lot of money for not that much at all, but that is just my first impression.

To be fair to the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority EQ is still a work in progress and will benefit from more buildings around it and more hospitality venues. There is also still a major ceramics artwork by Sandra Hill and Jenny Dawson to be installed, so I will reserve my final judgment for a few years.

The thing that impressed me most was the giant bird man in a boat by Aboriginal artist Laurel Nannup. It’s stunning!

There was not much food on offer so why did the MRA not put signs around EQ to point out that the Swan River Community Market was on only metres to the east of the development? After all they pay to have the markets there so why not do some decent marketing to support the stallholders.

HAVE A MUSICAL FREO SUNDAY!

It’s a very musical Sunday again in Fremantle with some of my creative friends performing around town. Alan Dawson is one of the EMPIRE BLUES duo playing at the Growers Green market, then from 11.30 am on my mate Ari will be playing on the deck of the lovely BLINCO STREET CAFE in the Fibonacci Centre, and from 2 pm my Clancy’s mate TOM FISHER AND THE LAYABOUTS will be performing at the free Sunday concert in the Fremantle Arts Centre.

The only hiccup to a perfect Sunday could be the rain that is forecast but knowing our weather it will probably never come.

On Saturday go check out the all new Elizabeth Quay in Perth and enjoy the Swan River Markets from 8.30 to 1.30. Lots of stalls with Fremantle people so go support them even when north of the might Swan river!

YUMMY FOOD AND GREAT SMILES AT SWAN RIVER MARKETS

Posted in fremantle, markets, perth by freoview on November 13, 2015

Here my weekly promotion for the Perth SWAN RIVER COMMUNITY MARKETS that is on each Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm between the Belltower and Barrack Street jetty.

The market is managed by Fremantle events and market guru Kylie Wheatley of Red Tent Events fame with me as her assistant, so hop on the train and come say hello. Come in the morning to our market and then move on later in the day to the Beaufort Street Festival, so you can make it a day out.

Our stall holders are the friendliest people and we have a great variety of international food, craft, fresh produce, etc. And of course there is live music, fairies, face painting, an animal touch farm and the cooling proximity of the Swan River.

See you tomorrow!

JOIN THE FREO MARKET GURUS IN PERTH

Posted in aboriginal, fremantle, perth, swan river community markets by freoview on November 6, 2015

I unashamedly promote the Perth Swan River Community Markets on this Fremantle blog as market organiser and my boss Kylie Wheatley and I are both from Freo, so a bit of self promotion should be alright.

The market is straight behind the Belltower and open each Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm with food stalls, art, craft, fresh produce, etc. There is live music, fairies, face painting and an animal farm for the kids, and it is a nice space to spend a Saturday morning.

This weekend  also sees the Deepavali Festival of Lights in the Supreme Court Gardens just over the road, so perfect to combine the two events and hop on the train from Freo to Perth for an adventure in the big smoke.

PEOPLE MAKE LIFE GOOD

Posted in fremantle, markets, people, perth by freoview on November 1, 2015

I love people and because of them it is easy to love life, as most people are good and interesting, no matter what their background, culture or religion is.

I love being a photographer as it enables me to observe and capture people at their best, and I love helping organise markets because it involves a lot of people.

Yesterday I took these photos at the Swan River Community Markets at the Belltower in Perth of the gorgeous fairies of Ladybird Entertainment and kids enjoying the animals at Farmer Damian’s touch farm. You can also find them at the Sunday’s Growers Green market in Fremantle. Live is good!

If you love markets the way I do you might not want to wait for the BIG Fremantle GROWERS GREEN Farmers Market on Sunday, so hop on the train tomorrow to Perth and join me at the SWAN RIVER COMMUNITY MARKETS at Barrack Street, behind the Belltower.

It is a great location and there are lots of food and other stalls, live music, and animal touch farm and fairies and face painting for the children.

Channel 7 will be filming all morning so this is a good chance of getting your face on TV.

We are open from 8-1 on Saturday! Se you there!

GREAT NEW MARKET AT ELIZABETH QUAY

Posted in fremantle, markets, perth by freoview on October 27, 2015

Here some more impressions of Saturday’s SWAN RIVER COMMUNITY MARKETS at Elizabeth Quay/Barrack Street jetty in Perth, that  is being organised by Fremantle’s Kylie Wheatley of Red Tent Events fame, and that I am also involved with.

The market has huge potential in my opinion once the Elizabeth Quay building site is finished. I believe the official opening of that will be around Christmas time this year, so only two months away. It is a very impressive development that could well become a major tourist attraction. Go and see for yourself.

The markets are on Saturdays from 8 am to 1pm.

a

Since I am involved with the SWAN RIVER COMMUNITY MARKETS at the Perth Belltower I am going to promote it now and then here on Freo’s View in the hope to entice some of my readers to make the epic journey across the mighty Swan into the big smoke.

The markets is on again tomorrow from 8 am till 1 pm and there is also the inaugural Bonjour French festival in Langley Park, so you could combine both events and make it a day out.

It will also give you the opportunity to check out the quite spectacular Elizabeth Quay development!

Take the train from the Murdoch train station to the Esplanade or from the Fremantle train station to Perth, or for the more adventurous drive to South Perth and hop on the ferry to Barrack Street. It will be fun!

STUNNING SWAN RIVER COMMUNITY MARKETS SETTING

Posted in fremantle, perth, swan river community markets by freoview on October 18, 2015

We do markets well in Fremantle, even when we do them in Perth. Freo’s Red Tent Events owner Kylie Wheatley, who also manages the Growers Green Farmers Markets in Beaconsfield, was contracted by the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority to create the SWAN RIVER COMMUNITY MARKETS at Barrack Street on Elizabeth Quay.

The market is wedged between the Swan River ferry terminal and the Belltower and is rather special in that location. It has food stalls, fresh produce, arts and crafts, an animal touch farm, live music, Fairy Sandie and live music.

Leave your car at Murdoch and hop on the train to the Esplanade Station. The market is on on Saturdays from 8.30 am to 1 pm.
