The 50th anniversary of the South Fremantle Senior High School was a nice community event, but even more impressive is the entry of the new Fremantle College building. It’s stunning!

SOUTH FREO HIGH 50TH PARTY!

SFSHS Open Day 2017

The South Fremantle Senior High School on Lefroy Road in Beaconsfield will be celebrating its 50th anniversary this Saturday, September 9 from 10 am to 3 pm.

There will be an historic display, live music, kids activities, reunion by decades area, food stalls, and more, so make sure to pop in and help them celebrate.

We all have important memories of our schools, the good and not so good teachers, and the importance of good education for our careers and life.

Teachers are critically important to the future of our children and very under-valued in my opinion.

Without my teachers in the Netherlands I would never have valued history and heritage so much, and would never have felt the urge to travel and experience new cultures. My history and English teacher Mr Hartog made a profound impact on my life.

The new building at the South Fremantle Senior High School in Lefroy Road is developing well and looking good. I finally stopped yesterday to take photos.

The school will merge in January with the Hamilton Senior High School and become the new FREMANTLE COLLEGE, but is celebrating its 50th anniversary in September a sign says.

I hope that once the development is completed the Growers Green Farmers Market can return to its old location, but time will tell.

FREMANTLE COLLEGE INFORMATION NIGHT TODAY!

Posted in education, fremantle by freoview on April 5, 2016

There is a community meeting on tonight about the planned new Fremantle College, so parents whose children will be going to secondary school in 2018, when the college opens, might want to find out what it is all about and ask questions.

The community meeting is on from 6.15 to 7.30 tonight at the South Fremantle Senior High School at Lefroy Road. It is in the preforming arts main hall and it is signed from the car park.

Here a bit from the Education Department about Fremantle College:

Fremantle’s new flagship college, opening in 2018, will provide your children with a high quality, comprehensive education from the moment they arrive to the time they graduate.

A focus on academic and vocational excellence will provide many options and pathways for your children to work towards their ambitions, whether they aspire to go on to university, further training or employment after they graduate. Whatever directions your children choose, Fremantle College will provide them with the opportunities to achieve the highest possible standards.

With children from Years 7 to 12, Fremantle College will open as an Independent Public School. The foundation principal will be appointed from 2017 and work closely with a new school board to shape the school, its staffing and its learning programs.

The school board will provide strategic direction and governance, with members drawn from diverse backgrounds including community, industry and academia. Their expertise and commitment will establish the college as a pre-eminent school for children in the Fremantle area.

Central to the college’s success will be strategic partnerships forged with the Fremantle community to strengthen children’s access to a wide range of study and career opportunities.

PILOT PROGRAM FOR CARBON NEUTRAL SCHOOLS

Posted in city of fremantle, environment by freoview on August 19, 2015

The City of Fremantle will subsidise ten schools to take part in the LOW CARBON SCHOOLS PILOT PROGRAM which will be conducted by Simply Carbon.

The program will help assist schools to improve their sustainability and operating efficiency, whilst reducing their carbon footprint.

The founders of Simply Carbon, Dr Vanessa Rauland and Dr Sam Hall, assisted the South Fremantle Senior High School in becoming the first carbon neutral school in Australia.

The program is not limited to Fremantle, so Perth schools can apply to take part.

There will be an info session on Thursday week August 27 from 5.30-7 pm in the reception room of the City of Fremantle (back entrance at the steps near the Many 6160 building).

Check out the http://www.simplycarbon.com.au website.

GROWERS GREEN FARMERS MARKETS’ FIFTH BIRTHDAY!

Posted in fremantle, market by freoview on July 30, 2015

The fantastically comfortable Fremantle GROWERS GREEN FARMERS MARKET will be celebrating its fifth birthday this Sunday with a big market that has got just about everything, so make sure not to muss it.

There will be live entertainment, facepainting and a touch animal farm and so many yummy things to buy for home but also to sit down and have breakfast and soak up the community spirit.

The Growers Green is my favourite market, so I’ll drop by to have a coffee and buy some fruit and vegies.

The markets is open from 8 am till midday and is at the South Fremantle Senior High School on Lefroy Road.
