Things became quite dramatic at Fremantle’s J Shed studio at Bathers Beach on Friday afternoon when a man stumbled in at Jenny Dawson and Peter Zuvela saying he had been bitten by a snake. I have seen a few snakes in the coastal dunes of Perth but never one at Bathers Beach yet, so this is a call to stay alert for those who visit the inner city beach.

The worrying thing is that the ambulance officers who attended told Jenny and Peter that they do not carry anti-venom with them so the long trip to the new Fiona Stanley hospital during peak hour was a serious threat to the snakebite victim’s health.

Open letter to Western Australian Premier Colin Barnett,

Dear Premier,

I would like to congratulate you on your decisive action against the hideous terror attacks by Australian wildlife on Western Australian citizens and visitors, and to introduce the culling/killing of Great White Sharks. It is absolutely unacceptable that sharks believe they have a right to their own territory, since they are not tax and ratepayers and they contribute nothing towards WA’s progress. They even dare to eat the fish we should be catching for our own human consumption. It’s just not on!

Human race rules and it is survival of the fittest, and I applaud your for starting culling the Great White endangered species. They do not vote, so they are useless to politicians, and I understand you have to get your priorities right and look after your own future and that of the Liberal party. The life of a shark is nothing compared to your greatness, dear Premier.

In light of your great anti-shark plans, may I suggest you now also include culling of poisonous snakes and spiders, as just yesterday a boy was almost killed by a dugite that showed no respect for human life and superiority. That can’t go on and needs to be punished. Kill all those nasty rogue bastards dear Premier before they take over and kill us all.

Summer is here, so it’s time to tell the kids to watch where they are going when visiting the beaches and walking through the dunes and along adjacent paths, because there are a few snakes around. Warning stencils were painted onto the path that runs along Fremantle‘s South Beach, so just keep a watchful eye out and tell foreign visitors to do the same.

R.I.P. HUNTER, the gorgeous little grey cat who was my neighbour at Captain’s Lane on Arthur Head in Fremantle for over two years. Hunter and the Crooks family were ordered to leave their Captain’s Lane home to make way for the Arthur Head Art Hub, so they moved to South Beach. Sadly Hunter was bitten by a snake and died on Tuesday. He will be missed by all who came across the delightful cat.

Hunter was photographed almost as often as the Round House he lived next to and he was a little adventurer. He went out hunting for rats and rabbits, was run over by a car, kidnapped, or should that be catnapped, and even came home one day high on cannabis that some naughty backpackers had fed him.

Love you Hunty!!
