JUNCTURE is a new exhibition at the Fremantle Moores Building Contemporary Art Centre by Olivia Samec, Sandy McKendrick and Thomas Gare.

Upstairs McKendrick shows more of her impressive works made out of flotsam collected at Cocos Island and Fremantle beaches. She had similar works during last year’s Fremantle Festival in the Fishing Boat Harbour and at Kidogo Arthouse. The show works well together because it looks as if it is an installation.

That part unfortunately lets the exhibition at ground level down because it looks more like a stamp collection with far too many works cramped into the space. This especially applies to Gare’s work that also lacks soul.

There is plenty of soul and depth in the moody fire paintings by Olivai Samec. They are quite mesmerising. The large and impressive work made out of 45 small paintings is let down by the way it is displayed though, because it looks untidy. More care should have been taken with the hanging of them.

As I always say, this is just my personal opinion, and art is all about individual taste, so go and see it for yourself. The exhibition is open until August 24 from 7 am to 5 pm every day
