SHOW COMMON SENSE ON THE ROADS OVER EASTER

Posted in fremantle, roads, TRAFFIC by freoview on March 24, 2016

There is a long weekend coming up again and no doubt more people will die on Western Australia’s roads, and no doubt politicians will blame police and police the government.

Since I arrived in WA in 1984 I have been aware that very many drivers here are not very good and not very considerate and that far too many have no sense of awareness and anticipation. They would not last half an hour on a German Autobahn.

The problem on our roads is not with the police or government or lack of signage, but with inconsiderate motorists who drink and drive, exceed the speed limits and basically don’t care a bit about other road users. They sit in their little castles on wheels, like kings who care little about those peasants who share the roads with them and are just a nuisance that stop them driving from A to B very fast and in the most reckless way.

When did WA allow people to drive cars without knowing the road rules? When did using indicators go out of fashion and when were speed limits just something that made you go faster instead of slowing down?

I drive my car every day and have near misses at least twice a week with people who ignore road rules. They speed through roundabouts and orange and red traffic lights, they ignore stop signs and have no idea how to merge, or they do but don’t care because it is more important to get one car space ahead in the traffic jam.

On Fremantle social media people complain how unfair it is that they have received speeding fines and lament the 50kmh limit is not signed and that it is all about revenue raising. It should not have to be signed because the road rules are clear, so learn the rules or get off the road and out of your car, because not knowing the rules makes you a danger on our roads and you’ll kill other people!

I know many people who drink and drive at least once a week and who believe there is nothing wrong with it, and I witness the aggression on the road daily with people yelling and screaming in outrage with pumping fists because someone sticks to the speed limit.

In WA it is a sport to make sure one gets ahead of the car in front when lanes merge, and no one gives a XXXX about giving way to pedestrians when they round a corner with their car.

The photo-mad egotistic selfie society turns into a selfish society when people get into their car. It’s all about me and I don’t care if that endangers other motorists, cyclists, bike riders or pedestrians

Why are we in such a mad hurry, why do we need to communicate every second of the day and can’t wait to read text messages till we have reached the end of our road trip? Why do we take unacceptable risks and don’t think about the consequences. What is wrong with us?!

It’s double demerit points, so use your brain and common sense and show some consideration on the roads this Easter weekend!

INTOLERANCE IS NOT SUPERIORITY

Posted in fremantle, terrorism by freoview on January 10, 2015

I have been wondering for a long time what it is that makes so many people believe they are superior to others. My thoughts have been going there for years. Why are people racist, why do people believe their god, their culture, their skin tone is superior? And it does not stop there because it happens in schools and in the workplace and on our roads. People become bullies because they believe they are superior to others, they kill because they believe their religion and their god are superior and that they should punish those inferiors who dare to believe in a different god and who have a different culture

The West Australian reports today about an increase in road accidents involving cyclists, who end up badly hurt under trucks and four-wheel drives, mainly because motorists believe they are superior to other road users. It’s not often ones sees a car give way to pedestrians when rounding a corner, although that is a requirement.

Religious zealots around the world believe they have a god-given right to kill people and kids believe it is okay to defame and humiliate other children on social media, because society is becoming more righteous and selfish. The ME society is more about ego than about sharing and tolerance. Lack of respect for others makes people feel superior and hence they don’t care about the consequences of their actions. Killing an ‘infidel’ or a cyclist is no big deal for those whose arrogance is disproportionate to their intelligence. Inconsiderate speeding hoons terrorise our roads daily while religious terrorists go on rampages to prove points their prophets have never made.

What we don’t seem to understand is that we are all just ripples in the big pond of life and that our self-importance is basically silly. Life is like a market with many stalls and there would not be a market if there were only one single stall, run by someone with a big over-inflated ego. It is a very simple message really, but one that many people don’t seem to get.

Share and care, show empathy instead of judgment, show love not hate, embrace and don’t reject. Have enough confidence to respect other gods and cultures because it won’t diminish the importance of your god and your belief. Your car does not make you the owner of the roads or superior to cyclists, so slow down, give way, take care, and show that you care!

The world is a grandiose place of immense beauty and there is enough of it for all of us to share, no matter what we look like or believe in. Let’s go out there each and every day and show that we care and that we value the lives of everyone.

Je suis Charlie. R.I.P.

FREMANTLE BAD DRIVER AWARD

Posted in fremantle by freoview on October 16, 2012

There used to be awards for bad cars and they’d receive the Lemon Car Prize or so, so today I am giving the Fremantle Lemon Motorist Award to this very inconsiderate driver who believed it is acceptable to park in this inconsiderate way on High Street around 3 pm today.

It’s for selfish motorists like you car manufacturers have invented automatic parking devises I suppose, but you might not be able to use them either as the steering wheel already appears too difficult to use.
