FREMANTLE WELCOMES QUEEN ELIZABETH PASSENGERS

QE 1

QE 2

The Queen Elizabeth cruise liner arrived in Fremantle at 6am this morning bringing over 2,000 passengers to our city. Many of them however hopped on a bus to the Pinnacles or Swan Valley, so it was relatively quiet in Fremantle and at the Roundhouse which I opened up an hour and a half earlier at 9am.

The City of Frematle had 23 Visitor Centre ambassadors at the Passenger Terminal on Victoria Quay to greet the arriving passengers and also had roving teams throughout the inner city. There was also a shuttle bus every 15 minutes between Kings Square and the Passenger Terminal and that will continue till 9pm this evening.

Quite a few visitors to the Roundhouse remarked on the very good historic lecture they had received about Fremantle on board the ship by Fremantle Society President John Dowson, so good on him!

The Queen Elizabeth is due to depart at 10pm this eve on her way to Busselton, Adelaide and Melbourne. Some people told me they will return to Perth from there on the Indian Pacific train.

The Highrise of the Seas, better known at the Queen Elizabeth, is in Fremantle and a pretty majestic sight she is. She is leaving at midnight today so if you want to see her head out to the port soon.

QUEEN IN A PURPLE HAZE

Posted in fremantle by freoview on March 2, 2011

The QUEEN ELIZABETH cruise liner left Fremantle harbour in a purple haze yesterday, as Fremantle Ports, the Dockers and the Children Startlight Foundation put up a party.  There was live music, bouncing castle, merry-go-around, footy handball and autograph signing with Fremantle Dockers‘ stars, while a group of Starlight Foundation kids boarded the Ports vessel Response to accompany the Queen Elizabeth on her departure.

Hundreds braved the oppressive heat and lined Queen Victoria Quay and the North and South moles to watch the majestic ship sail out into the setting sun.

FREMANTLE WELCOMES ANOTHER QUEEN

Posted in fremantle by freoview on March 1, 2011

It is just over a week ago since the Queen Mary visited Fremantle, and this morning was the arrival of her newest sister, the QUEEN ELIZABETH, on her maiden visit to our city.

This queen was an early bird so some of the TV crews who arrived late in their helicopters would have been disappointed. There were still  good crowds on the South and North moles, and the departure at six this evening is expected to be big with Purple Haze Day celebrations with Fremantle Dockers footy stars, music and other entertainment, so come along!
