UGLY FREO ROYALE FRINGE PROMOTION
Is this ugly fence promotion for Freo Royale really the appropriate way of advertising the great fringe festival?
Why put a well-designed promo at one end of the High Street mall but this ugly black eyesore at the other end?

FUNOPOLY GREAT FREO MARKETING
Congratulations to the Fremantle BID group for coming up with the FREO FUNOPOLY concept for the school holidays. What a great way marketing our city by asking children, accompanied by adults, to discover and wander around Freo.
I talked with many of them at the Roundhouse, where we had been supplied with a stamp by BID to put on the map, and they not only loved it, but consumed quite a bit and discovered new elements of our city.
We quite often get people up at Arthur Head who do Amazing Place races with their companies, as part of their group and leadership building, so it is something BID and the City’s marketing department should offer more often.
It would be perfectly suited to a heritage festival for example.
Well done Business Improvement District for this innovative support for our traders!

WTF NOT SO RUDE RETAIL PROMOTION
When I noticed the WTF SALE sign at the Corner Store in South Fremantle I thought they had crossed over to the dark side.
The shop always has really great and creative window displays, so the WTF does not suit them at all, but then I noticed the ‘fine print’ WTF stands for Warehouse Totally Full. Clever promotion!

NO STREET ARTS FESTIVAL INFO FOR TOURISTS
I have blogged about this before, but unfortunately need to do it again as the City of Fremantle’s marketing department does not appear to have got the message.
When I was on volunteer visitor guide duty at the Roundhouse yesterday I noticed we did not have any information there about the big Street Arts Festival for the tourists, so I asked staff to contact the City and ask them to drop off a box with programs, but the FVHG president was told by COF we should go and collect some at cafes if we wanted them.
One would assume that it would be basic common sense to supply the tourist destinations such as the Maritime and Shipwreck Museum, Fremantle Prison and the Roundhouse with information about what is on at Fremantle as many people do not know what is happening in town.
The West End cafes our staff member diligently went to yesterday also did not have any programs for the big Easter Weekend festival, so I am bewildered that this is not standard practise at the City of Fremantle. Disappointing!

COUNTERPRODUCTIVE SIGNS TSUNAMI
Signage is important to make people aware of one’s business but I doubt the impact seven A-frame signs have next to each other in a row, as here at the Fremantle Piazza. Does anyone notice individual signs when there are so many? I doubt it! And it look pretty ugly and is visual pollution in my books.
Does the City of Fremantle has a policy on A-frame advertising?

CORONA SUNSETS SETTING UP IN FREMANTLE
There is a hive of activity at Fremantle’s South Beach where workers are setting up the Corona SunSets one-day festival that will be held on Saturday January 16 from 2-11 pm.
Freo is the last stage of the five continents festival that has been held in the United Kingdom, Shanghai in China, the island of Ibiza in Spain and of course in Mexico where the beer brand originates from.
The 5,000 tickets for the Fremantle event have been sold so it will be a big beach party.

FREO STREET WISE IS OUT
Fremantle has another small magazine with FREO STREET WISE hitting the cafes and shops around town this weekend. The magazine is published by former West Australian newspaper journalist Carmelo Amalfi who also did a stint at the Fremantle Herald.
It looks very much like an advertorial publication to me but it does not have the flair the one-off promotional George Street and Wray Avenue newspapers had earlier this year.
Go and get a copy and decide for yourselves if Freo Street Wise fills a gap that needed to be filled.
