A BIG CONGRATULATIONS! to Fremantle Mayor Brad Pettitt and his partner Emma.

The couple had their first child earlier this week. It’s a girl!!!!

No doubt the parents are as much in awe off their newborn as I am about babies in general. These beautiful little creatures are the true miracles in the world and a blessing.

FREMANTLE COLLEGE INFORMATION NIGHT TODAY!

Posted in education, fremantle by freoview on April 5, 2016

There is a community meeting on tonight about the planned new Fremantle College, so parents whose children will be going to secondary school in 2018, when the college opens, might want to find out what it is all about and ask questions.

The community meeting is on from 6.15 to 7.30 tonight at the South Fremantle Senior High School at Lefroy Road. It is in the preforming arts main hall and it is signed from the car park.

Here a bit from the Education Department about Fremantle College:

Fremantle’s new flagship college, opening in 2018, will provide your children with a high quality, comprehensive education from the moment they arrive to the time they graduate.

A focus on academic and vocational excellence will provide many options and pathways for your children to work towards their ambitions, whether they aspire to go on to university, further training or employment after they graduate. Whatever directions your children choose, Fremantle College will provide them with the opportunities to achieve the highest possible standards.

With children from Years 7 to 12, Fremantle College will open as an Independent Public School. The foundation principal will be appointed from 2017 and work closely with a new school board to shape the school, its staffing and its learning programs.

The school board will provide strategic direction and governance, with members drawn from diverse backgrounds including community, industry and academia. Their expertise and commitment will establish the college as a pre-eminent school for children in the Fremantle area.

Central to the college’s success will be strategic partnerships forged with the Fremantle community to strengthen children’s access to a wide range of study and career opportunities.

SUPPORT FOR GROWERS GREEN SUPPORTS SOUTH FREO SENIOR HIGH

The GROWERS GREEN FARMERS MARKET, Fremantle’s all year and all weather community market is on again on Sunday morning from 8 am to midday. There is lots of fresh fruit and vegetables for sale as well as bread, pastries, and great breakfast and coffee delights.

The markets raise funds for the South Fremantle Senior High School and recently had all their sound and other equipment stolen, so go and support them! The weather looks promising for tomorrow, so come along.

NOTRE DAME UNI OPEN DAY

Posted in fremantle, notre dame university by freoview on August 16, 2015

The Fremantle Notre Dame University open day is always a special day where one can see the anticipation on the faces of parents and prospective future students. It is also a fun day that is very relaxing with live music, things to do and food and drinks aplenty.

The UNDA Open Day had one of the best little brochures I have seen for years and something the City of Fremantle could do for the Street Art Festival. It is handy, small, creative and very functional, so well done to the Notre Dame designer!

Here a few impressions of the day.

OPEN DAY AT NOTRE DAME UNI

Posted in fremantle, notre dame university by freoview on August 12, 2015

Fremantle NOTRE DAME UNIVERSITY is holding its annual Open Day this Sunday August 16 from 10am to 3 pm, so a good opportunity for parents and high school students to have a look around, talk to staff and tutors and get all the important information about campus.

It also gives other people in the community the chance to learn more about our very own Freo university and have a stroll around, see the stunning adaptive re-use of the heritage buildings and the modern lecture theatres, libraries, etc.

The UNDA Open Day is just a good day to hang around the West End of Fremantle and enjoy the community spirit. See you there!

FREO PEOPLE WORSE OFF BUT NOT GREEDY

Posted in city of fremantle, committee for perth, local government by freoview on August 3, 2015

The FUTURE FREO project was launched in 2014 by the Committee for Perth and this is from their latest FactBase Bulletin 3- Where’s the Boom? Unpacking Fremantle’s Socioeconomic Structure:

Despite strong growth in median incomes between the period from 2004-05 to 2011-12, Inner and Outer Fremantle residents had median incomes that were $3,714 and $2,116 lower than the Perth/Peel average. Additionally, house prices in these areas were 1.7 to 2.2 times higher than the median Perth price of $490,000 and the area has seen an increase in the number of renters, who outnumber residents with a mortgage or homeownership.

Even when faced with these disadvantages, overall the Greater Fremantle region has a lower proportion of its population claiming both the Newstart Allowance and the Single Parenting Payment than in Perth and Peel.

FREMANTLE FAMILY WINTER FUN

Posted in festival, fremantle, winter by freoview on July 2, 2015

family on ice 4 family on ice 3 family on ice 2 family on ice 1

The WA media appears to be as Perth-centric as State Government is. Channel 10 and 9 both reported on Wednesday about the winter festival in Perth but not a word about the Fremantle WINTER FESTIVAL on the Esplanade that has the larger icerink, a giant slide, snow machine, and other forms of entertainment organised by Future Common and BID.

The one thing I noticed is that ticket prices in Perth are $ 2 cheaper than in Freo and that is disappointing.

The Esplanade Hotel has a special on for one night family accommodation with buffet breakfast and a family pass to the icerink for $ 299.00.

Jus Burger, Parlappa, San Churro, Bratwurst, Paella are all there and there is also a bar at the icerink with comfy chairs and lounges.

I observed this lovely family trying to stay upright. It’s fun to watch all the kids and grown ups having fun.
