Freo's View

I don’t understand the world. There is an international effort that costs a huge amount of money to find a crashed plane with dead people, but none to find 200+ Nigerian teenage girls kidnapped by religious morons. These girls might be raped, sold off as slaves or ‘wives’ and the international powerful world sits on its arse, probably because they are only poor and black and from a third world country, and nothing really special?

It disgusts me!!

This is probably not new to recycle and sustainability experts, but it is for me, and I believe it is something that people in Fremantle might well take up. It’s a house in Nigeria built out of plastic bottles! The two-bedroom bungalow is built from plastic bottles, filled with sand and put together with mud and cement. It is fire and bullet proof, the latter important for unloved Freo councillors ; >), an it is earthquake resistant. Most importantly it has an interior temperature of about 18 degrees Celsius throughout the year.

The house was built by the NGO Development Association for Renewable Energies.

I  believe this is a very good way of recycling for smaller dwellings like granny flats, sheds, storage space for rubbish bins, bicycles, etc.

All we have to do now is to convince manufacturers to sell wine and beer in plastic bottles, because it would take an awful lot of sugar-full soft drinks to have enough bottles for a building.

There are of course other applications, as the recycled beer bottle lamps in the Loft at Little Creatures show.
