BONJOUR TO FREO FRENCH NAVY FRIGATE

Posted in city of fremantle, fremantle ports, Uncategorized by freoview on November 15, 2017

The first thing I do most mornings is drive onto the Fremantle South Mole to have a look at the activity in port.

This morning a French navy frigate arrived and turned around in the harbour, so here some photos of it.

I did not find anything about the vessel on the Fremantle Port website, so don’t know the name of the ship or the duration of her stay in port.

I had almost forgotten it, but just remembered in time that it is Remembrance Day today.

So I headed up to Fremantle Monument Hill to take some photos of the solemn occasion.

FREMANTLE MARITIME TODAY!

Posted in city of fremantle, fremantle ports, maritime, Uncategorized by freoview on November 4, 2017

Maritime Day

The annual Fremantle Port Maritime Day is on today from 10am to 4pm so make it a family day out in good old Freo!

This is a great event for children as they can visit a tugboat, see a submarine close up, enjoy navy displays, free harbour ride, food, music, entertainment, etc.

One can also visit the Maritime Museum for only a gold coin donation, so that is a substantial saving!

And while at Victoria Quay wander down to the West End to take in the public art of High Tide of the Fremantle Festival.

NEW SEALINK FERRY TO ROTTNEST ISLAND

Posted in aboriginal, city of fremantle, fremantle port, rottnest island, Uncategorized by freoview on October 28, 2017

sealink

It was very busy, and a bloody cold wind, in Fremantle Port early this morning when the new Sealink Rottnest Island ferry Quokka I left for the island.

The big cruiseliner Voyager of the Seas had just arrived in port, and a navy frigate was also at berth at Victoria Quay, while North Quay was busy with container ships and a livestock carrier.

The cafe at B Shed has a new operator and staff so go and try them out while watching the ships entering and leaving port, and keep an eye out for dolphins who come into the harbour daily.

On  different note, I am delighted to read that the former Quod prison cells on Rottnest will no longer be used as tourist accommodation.

The Quod was an inhumane gaol for Aboriginal people in the mid 1800s and 10 per cent of prisoners died there.

GREAT NEW TOURIST ATTRACTION FOR FREMANTLE

Posted in art, city of fremantle, fremantle port, navy, Uncategorized by freoview on September 15, 2017

Monument

The Royal Australian Navy has announced a massive new monument and tourist attraction for Fremantle.

The $ 2 million Sailor monument, that will be placed on the North Mole of Fremantle Port, will have a large 3.6 metre high bronze sculpture of a sailor, plus ten granite walls full of navy history.

What a timely and brilliant addition for Fremantle during a time of the greatest transformation of our city!

Indian Navy

If you picked up the smell of yummy curry in the West End of Fremantle today it is probably due to three Indian navy vessels entering the port. ; >)

They will be open to the public, tomorrow Wednesday June 14 from 10 am to 4 pm, so go and say G’Day!

FREMANTLE PORT AND RAIL

It’s always an interesting view point to see a ship at berth in port straight behind the Fremantle railway station.

This one is the Canberra class amphibious assault ship and landing helicopter dock HMAS Adelaide.

NAVY FORCE FOR BAD BOY BOOM BUST BARNETT

Posted in election, fremantle, fremantle ports, politics by freoview on March 10, 2017

Fremantle Port looks as if Labor leader and former Navy officer Mark McGowan has called in a few favours to show Bad Boy Boom Bust Barnett and his supporters who will be in charge from Monday on.

There are five warships in the port and one off shore, so that is a clear show of force. ; >)

One more sleep!
