JOIN THE FREO LONG DINNER TABLE

b6

To paraphrase what Prime Minister Bob Hawke said when the America’s Cup was won, you are a bum if you are not at tonight’s great Fremantle Long Table Dinner.

Even if you don’t have a ticket to sit down and have a meal, you can still enjoy the activities and ambience and the Christmas Market in Henry Street.

The event is a fundraiser for St Patrick’s so bring a few dollars to donate for the very good cause and help people in need.

There is a great vibe at the long table dinner, so come along and be part of this VERY FREO! event.

AWESOME ARTWALK IN FREO’S WEST END

Posted in art, artists, city of fremantle, culture, Uncategorized by freoview on October 29, 2018

There is a great cultural walk happening this coming Friday November 2 in Fremantle’s historic West End.

The Art in the West End-AWE will be running fom 4-7pm in four locations to showcase the work of our local artists. It will involve some 98 artists opening their studios and exhibition spaces.

Artsource at Phillimore Street will open its 40 artist’s studios and PSAS in Pakenham Street  will show off the work of its 50 artists in 35 studios.

The Level One Studios in Cliff Street will also open, as will the new gallery space in the National Hotel.

It’s all free, so go for an AWEsome experience and maybe even buy a work straight from the artist.

GREAT FREO BOUTIQUE HOTEL

Posted in accommodation, architecture, art, bar, city of fremantle, food, history, hospitality, hotel, tourism, Uncategorized by freoview on October 13, 2018

National Hotel owner Karl Bullers gave me a quick preview of the new rooftop bar and twelve boutique hotel rooms and I left very impressed.

The rooftop bar will no doubt become one of Fremantle’s favourites, with sweeping views over the port, the historic West End and all over the city. The weather was very dull yesterday, so my photos unfortunately don’t do justice to the magnificence of it.

The hotel rooms are all individually styled with handmade furniture by Clint of Port Jarrah, which is just down the road from the hotel in High Street.

The rooms are really cosy and homely, some have views to the port, others over the city. The TVs are internet connected, there are bath tubs in some and twin showers in others, so recommend them to visitors who want something special smack bang in the middle of our beautiful city.

Noise insulation and double glazed windows are all there to ensure absolute comfort for hotel guests.

There are very good paintings along the corridors by local artists, which are for sale, and the National Hotel does not charge commission so is supporting our local creatives

The rooftop bar will officially open on Melbourne Cup Day but Karl Bullers told me that if the weather is fine next weekend he will give it a soft opening to see how it all goes.

It is a great new addition to Fremantle by an owner who has clearly got faith in Freo’s future.

I do realise this is very early notice, but I do it because it will be very special to be one of the first to enjoy the Fremantle National Hotel‘s new rooftop bar.

Three hours in the sun with yummy food and rinks, live entertainment and of course a live telecast from the Melbourne Cup.

FREO NOW RIGHT BY YOUR SIDE!

Posted in city of fremantle, hospitality, retail, shopping, Uncategorized by freoview on July 28, 2018

It was full house at the Fremantle National Hotel last night for the official launch of retail supporter FREO NOW, that attempts to replace the BID, which was abandoned by Fremantle Council, to make way for Destination Marketing.

FREO NOW CEO Karl Bullers, who owns the National Hotel,  said Fremantle traders need grassroots assistance to help their businesses grow and that FREO NOW would provide that.

There will be free business coaching for members and FREO NOW is looking for creatives to fill vacant shops at peppercorn rent to attract people to the Fremantle CBD.

There are plans for a small business expo and FREO NOW will be seeking federal funding.

“We have not given up on you! We will be right by your side” Karl Bullers assured the crowd, which included Councillors Waltham, Pemberton, Lang and Sullivan as well as last year’s Mayoral candidate Ra Stewart, Silverleaf Investments director Gerard O’Brien and Chamber of Commerce CEO Olwyn Williams.

I was flabbergasted that a shop owner who has been trading at Cantonment Street for over twenty years asked questions about why BID was gone and what Destination Marketing was, when all that has been published in the local media and on line extensively. It helps to inform oneself about what goes on in the the town where one trades!

On a very positive by note, it was really good to hear that Karl Bullers puts his money where his mouth is when he mentioned that Clint Clark from Port Jarrah was making the wardrobes for the new hotels rooms at the National Hotel, estimated to be opened by the end of August.
