LIGHT AND HISTORY AT FREO ARTS CENTRE

Posted in art, fremantle, fremantle arts centre by freoview on November 20, 2016

There are two interesting new exhibitions on at the Fremantle Arts Centre. Light Geist is a show of light and projections by Ella Barclay, Sam Price and Ngamaru Bidu and Sohan Ariel Hayes.

The two fog boxes in the hallway are intriguing. Look for the swimmers!

Also on show is a collection of historic works by printer and collector Frank Norton. Some great paintings of Fremantle Port I had not seen before!

ROEL DOES REMBRANDT AT MOORES

Many Fremantle cafes, like the Moore&Moore in Henry Street, have a great homely and quirky atmosphere. I took this photo of French chef Julien and a lovely friend while waiting for the right light to hit the building. It is a Rembrandt-like image, with the sunlight just lighting up the two people while the area around them remained dark. I absolutely love being a photographer!

EARLY BIRD CATCHES THE LIGHT

Posted in fremantle by freoview on July 20, 2014

I love early mornings. There is a stillness about Fremantle that one does not experience at any other time of the day. The crispness of the air, the purity of the light and that sense of quiet, when few cars are on the road and only the early birds are out to get a coffee or go to work.

This Sunday gave me a very special start with stunning light on the old Tram Building in High Street, that now houses Chalkys cafe, and then five dolphins delighted three of my mates and me in the harbour. Could there be a better start to the day?

SUNSET MAKES MUNDANE LOOK GOOD

When one looks out for it, one can find beauty is nearly everything, as I discovered yesterday yet again. I was taking photos of the sunset at Fremantle Bathers Beach when I turned around to see the intense warm sun light on the building site of the former Fishermen’s Co-op building, that is being developed into a tavern and restaurant. It’s a real joy for a photographer to make something mundane look interesting.

SHADOWS OF BEAUTY

Posted in fremantle, photography by freoview on November 26, 2013

I need to finish this frustrating day with at least some beauty, and photography always helps me to find balance again. I took this photo late this afternoon at the Fremantle Cappuccino Strip.

NATURES WATER COLOUR

I love art, even more so when it is created by nature. This is a watercolour painting I photographed in the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour yesterday. Simple reflections creating their own water painting.

FIND YOURSELF CHRISTMAS DELIGHT IN FREMANTLE

Posted in fremantle by freoview on August 27, 2012

Please don’t whinge it is far too early to think about Christmas, after all Woolworth is already selling Christmas stuff.

Here in gorgeous Fremantle we always think far ahead, or maybe we are just ahead of ourselves, but the City has just announced lovely new Christmas lights from Kings Square all the way into High Street West. The illuminated electric lights are two and a half metres high and will be attached to lightpoles. A huge improvement to the two dollar shop looking things we had on light poles the last few years. You will be seeing the new lights around town from mid November. Bring the kids!!

STUNNING W.A. DAY SUNRISE

Posted in fremantle by freoview on June 4, 2012

What a sensational sunrise to celebrate W.A. Day with in Fremantle. I don’t believe I have ever seen the morning sky so full of amazing colours. I am very happy I did not sleep in. I took the photos of Fremantle Port from the South Mole.

WARM SUNRISE LIGHTS UP FREMANTLE

Posted in fremantle by freoview on May 12, 2012

An unusually warm sunrise lit up Fremantle‘s buildings this morning. The glow on the Maritime Museum and ships in the port was amazing. Look how those ‘boring’ industrial buildings along Fleet Street looked when the warm rays of sunshine put the spotlight on them.

SUNRISE AT FREMANTLE PORT

Posted in fremantle by freoview on May 1, 2012

This is the first photo I took this morning around 6.30. I did not even have to leave home and shot the sunrise at Fremantle harbour out of the window.

I am pretty blessed living at Arthur Head, and with the loveliest family as neighbours. The daughters Remmy and Sunny sat chatting on the veranda with me the other day,  while Hunter the beautiful cat comes for visits and cuddles often. Remmy told me with her cheeky smile it might be time at my age to look for a retirement home. ;>)
