MelbourneCup on the roof

I do realise this is very early notice, but I do it because it will be very special to be one of the first to enjoy the Fremantle National Hotel‘s new rooftop bar.

Three hours in the sun with yummy food and rinks, live entertainment and of course a live telecast from the Melbourne Cup.

See details above on the poster.

BACK TO COUNTRY AT RANDWICK STABLES

June 5 Ranwick Stables, Ham Hill

There is a community day this Sunday from 10am to 4 pm at the Randwick Stables on 24 Rockingham Road.

The Friends of Clontarf Hill invite the community to share their stories about the hill and go Back to Country.

The heritage listed stables were established in 1923 by Jack Marks who was famous in horse racing circles.

There will be stalls, food, music, things for the kids to do and it will be a lovely day of family fun and reflection on the history of place.

LOOPY MELBOURNE CUP TIPS

Posted in fremantle by freoview on October 31, 2011

It has been a tradition for many years that I supply my friends with tips for the Melbourne Cup, so this year I looked deep and hard for clues all over Fremantle and beyond. I gazed at stars, looked into crystal balls and empty wine glasses, talked to psychics, mind readers, and horse whisperers, to make sure I was well informed.

Let me make it clear that this year’s Cup race is more unpredictable than ever, and I personally blame Qantas for that. The Queen’s visit to Australia might also have upset some horses, paranoid of being bitten my Her Maj’s corgis, so it could get messy tomorrow at Flemington.

* Americain does not do it for me. We used to have steak Americain in Holland when I was a child. It was minced meat, not horse I think.

* Jukebox Jury will have many fans in retirement villages and RSL clubs, so lots of pennies will be put on her.

* Drunken Sailor will have huge following at yacht clubs around the nation. It might have had a change if it could stand on two legs, let alone gallop on four.

* Unusual Suspect is a great bet for the W.A. Police Force who will spend their well-earned CHOGM overtime money on this horse.

* Presedence will be my bet this year, as trainer Bart Cummings always pulls a bunny out of the hat on big occasions.

* Lost in the Moment is for the star gazing lovely Librans out there. It might not win, but it will still feel good to see it floating in the air.

* At First Sight is a big no-no for me, as it reminds me too much of falling in love and broken hearts.

* Tullamore needs dew, so for that horse the race starts far too late. It might have had a chance if the Cup was run at 6 a.m.

* Older Than Time. This world heritage listed horse will remain just an impressive part of Melbourne Cup history.

Jockeys and trainers will tell you it’s all about one race at the time, while for those of us who speak horse language, the message is loud and clear that it is one stride at the time.

Will you be much richer tomorrow just after noon W.A. time? Very likely in experience only, and you will tell yourself, like you did last year and the years before, to never bet on the Melbourne Cup ever again.

Good luck and have fun! I’ll be at Fremantle’s Clancys of course.

There were only winners at Fremantle’s Clancy today, as many people came to enjoy the Melbourne Cup and have a very good time.

I hope the photos give an impression of a lovely afternoon.

THE BEST MELBOURNE CUP TIP IN AUSTRALIA

Posted in australia by freoview on November 1, 2010

For many years it was the tradition that I shared my Melbourne Cup tips with all and thunder, and since this stunning Monday started at 4 am for me, I have got ample time to have another go at it.

It has become more difficult to predict the winner of the cup that stops the nation, because of the introduction of screw caps on wine bottles.  While other “seers” use tea leaves, glass balls, or coloured cards, I always referred to wine corks as my source of inspiration and holistic knowledge. Not so this year, so be aware!

It is quite clear that Shocking will receive massive bets, because according to many, the world is a shocking place. Don’t waste your money is my advise.

So You Think will be the fave of all blondes, because they truly believe they do, while Shoot Out will appeal to those macho men who like fake blondes.

Profound Beauty is the go-to for Librans. Is there a star sign more convinced of its own internal and external beauty?

Bauer is a fascinating multicultural bet. While the horse’s German name means farmer in our language, it is trained by Italian chap  Luca Cumani. (Cumani could well translate to Cummings, for all I know).

I realise I have drawn this announcement out like independent MP Rob-look at me- Oakeshott, so let’s release your PMCT, or pre Melbourne Cup tension, with the announcement that without a doubt Red Ruler will rule the roost tomorrow! It might need a mass fall by the favourites, and most other horses in the field, but remember the speed ice skater, who won an Olympic gold medal? He was the last man standing. That too will happen tomorrow for my horse.

Of course my main reason for making Red Ruler the winner is that Ruler sounds much like my own name, when pronounced correctly, and red happens to be my favourite colour, although blue is as well, and so is green, and I am actually a wee bit colour blind.

To put my betting tips in perspective; since I arrived in Australia in 1982 I have only twice backed the right horse and winner of the Melbourne Cup.

I’ll be at Fremantle’s Clancys to see my horse come first!

May Bart be with you!

Roel (RULE) Loopers

DISCLAIMER:I do love blondes, and brown, black and red haired women.

See note above about my colour blindness. *>)
