EARLY START FOR FREMANTLE HILTON HOTEL

 

If approved by Fremantle Council the construction of the Hilton Doubletree Hotel and 99 residential apartments will already start in October this year, and not as planned in January 2020.

The SKS Land group, which owns the site, has applied to start Stage 1 in October, which would see the demolition of the multi-storey Point Street car park and the new ground level car park next to it.

Just over a year ago in April 2017 Council approved the application by SKS for a two year extension for the commencement of the development and created a ground-level carpark, but now SKS wants to immediately start with the demolition and excavation, to construct a two-storey basement car park and the ground level slab.

If the pre-sale target for the 99 apartments is reached the entire development will start, but if not there could be a one year pause in construction.

The development commencement would also force the relocation of Circus WA.

I believe it is very good news that SKS wants to start the development 15 months earlier, but believe they should pay compensation for the exterior painting of the multi-storey carpark and the cost of the construction of the ground-level carpark to the City of Fremantle.

The early construction will not only mean that Fremantle will lose over 300 car bays but also that the City will in 2019 lose out on $ 114,000 in parking fees from the site.

Fremantle is in urgent need of more tourist accommodation and with the Woolstores development on halt it would be positive if the Hilton Doubletree Hotel was erected sooner than planned, but the possible one-year pause if pre-sale targets are not met is a worry.

The request will go before the FPOL Committee of Fremantle Council this coming Wednesday.

The City of Fremantle deserves credit for giving the run down Point Street car park a new coat of paint.

The area looks so much better, that one has to wonder why the wealthy SKS Group did not bother to maintain the car park and the vacant site next to it, which the City has now converted into a public car park, with one hour FREE parking!

We are still hoping SKS will actually build the Hilton Doubletree hotel and residential apartments on the site, but I am not holding my breath.

NEW FREMANTLE CARPARK ALMOST READY

What a difference a bit of landscaping makes!

The vacant site on the corner of Adelaide and Point streets in Fremantle, destined to become a Hilton Doubletree hotel and ANCORA apartment development, has received some TLC from the City of Fremantle.

The site will become a temporary public carpark next to the multi-storey Point Street carpark, until the SKS Group starts the development in 2019.

There is also a new sales office for the residential apartments, which is open on weekends, so go and have a look.

New signs of things to come in central Fremantle with the SKS Group finally putting a sales office on the corner of Adelaide and Point streets for the ANCORA, the Freo Way of Life planned residential and Hilton Hotel development.

I was surprised and a bit worried to note that there is no reference on the signs to the Hilton Doubletree hotel that is supposed to be part of the development.

It is just up the road from the Little Lane planned development on the former Spotlight, now MANY 2.0 site, and will be opposite the planned new Woolstores shopping centre mixed-use development of commercial, residential and hotel.

ANCORA offers one-bedroom apartments from $ 349,00, two-bedroom from $ 520,000 and three-bedroom from $ 725,000. The sales office will be open on weekends and development is planned to start in early 2020.

The run-down area between Cantonment and Adelaide streets from Queen Street to Princess May Park is in urgent need of modernisation, but unfortunately the boring architecture of the planned buildings is very disappointing and a worry.

NEW FREMANTLE CBD CAR PARK

Point Street

 

Work has started on the new public car park on the corner of Adelaide and Point Street in Fremantle, on the site for the planned Hilton Doubletree Hotel.

The construction of the hotel by SKS has been delayed till the start of 2020, so Fremantle Council insisted they would return control of the site to the City, so that the space can be used, instead of being an eyesore.

SKS will also put a portable sales office on the corner of the site.

The City of Fremantle will also manage the Point Street multi-storey car park from January next year, until SKS starts building in about two years.

The new car park at the Stan Reilly site next to Fremantle Oval is also due to open early next year, so that will help local traders.

And the City has added one-hour free parking during the Kings Square Project development in Queen, Adelaide and William streets. Check the signs though!
