It’s official! Fremantle councillor Rachel Pemberton is the hottest person on council! The vibrant, creative and gorgeous councillor is one of only four people who managed to eat the hottest chilli in the world within ten minutes, at the South Fremantle Missy Moos burger bar.
Councillor Andrew Sullivan also tried the chilli torture but had to stop halfway as he felt unwell. Nasty rumours are that he started to hallucinate about highrise buildings collapsing on top of him. :>) No, I made that up!
The burgers at Missy Moos were rated 9/10 by Master Chef celebrity Matt Preston, so if you haven’t tried the cute little bar, do it soon.
The biggest art space in Australia will open in Pearse Street, North Fremantle on Saturday, so stay tuned for more information and photos soon. I don’t even know the name yet.
It will be a welcome addition to the little North Freo hub where the Mojos music bar, Flipside Burgers, Mrs Browns wine bar and the Latitude 9 cafe are already prospering.
While retailers all over the city are crying retail recession, it was good to see last eve that the hospitality industry in Fremantle seems to be doing alright, even on a Tuesday night. I watched the hustle and bustle at Little Creatures while enjoying a couple of dark White Rabbit beers early in the eve. From there I walked to the inner city and noticed most restaurants being busy and doing good business.
The pizza I had at Ecco in Market Street was excellent. I really like the pizzas there with the very thin crust and good toppings, but my favourite pizza place still is Ruocco down in South Fremantle.
Service always seems an issue in most places though. I noticed a couple at another table having to ask for the wife’s meal while the husband was already halfway through his pizza. The mussels were finally served but without bread, so they had to ask for that as well. Not good enough.
Friends who play in the Wasamba group complained they went with a large mob to a burger bar on the Cappuccino Strip after a performance, to be told the kitchen did not do burgers after nine o’clock, but they could order a main course, which they did not want. They all left and the establishment missed out on $ 300.00 or more. Stupidity?
On a positive note, it is so good to see when wait people stand out. I have witnessed two 21 year old women doing excellent work. German born Wendy at Tasty@B Shed is one of those efficient, charming and likable people, while Candice, who used to work at the Moore&Moore cafe, and is now at Clancys, is a delight to watch. The way she moves purposefully from table to table, totally focussed on the job makes her prety special. If I needed staff I would want those two gorgeous girls working for me.
