WOMEN URGED TO GET ON BOARD

Posted in city of fremantle, state government, Uncategorized, women by freoview on September 20, 2017

For all the great Fremantle women who would like to get involved, but don’t know how, the State Government has set up OnBoard WA.

It is a register where you can express your interest to be appointed on a government board, committee, or advisory body, so check it out!

Member for Fremantle Simone McGurk published an article in the West Australian about it today, so contact her office if you want to know more about it.

I am one of the lucky blokes who was raised in a family with three strong sisters and an amazing mother, and throughout my life have had the pleasure, and the challenge ; >) , of being in love and living with strong, independent women.

It is not acceptable that commercial boards are stacked with men, and only a minute number of women are appointed to them. Even our governments don’t do very well in appointing women to senior positions. It’s time the macho Aussie image changed!

I just received my Marriage Equality ballot paper in the letterbox, so make sure to tick the YES box and put it in the mail fast.

I vote YES because I believe everyone should have the right to make an official commitment to love.

LABOR WANTS TO KEEP BEACONSFIELD SEAT

Posted in city of fremantle, election, local council, politics, western australia, women by freoview on June 17, 2016

The Labor party is trying to hold on to the Fremantle Council seat of Beaconsfield that has become available now that former Deputy Mayor Josh Wilson resigned to contest the Federal seat of Fremantle. Hannah Fitzhardinge, a former advisor to WA Premier Geoff Gallop has put her hand up to sit next to Labor’s Councillor Dave Hume.

The by-election will be held probably in September at a date yet to be announced by the Electoral Commission.

Fitzhardinge told the Fremantle Herald that Fremantle Council does not have gender balance, which also applies to most local councils and State and Federal governments, and that she wants better pedestrian safety on South Terrace with mural gardens and street beautification. That process is already well under way of course and was only recently addressed by a large South Fremantle Precinct meeting.

Hannah Fitzharding also wants  the relocation of a State department to Freo and attract more State funding, which has been the aim of the City of Fremantle for years.

I am all for more women in power positions everywhere but the gender balance stuff does not cut it for me as I fear it can become tokenism. I believe Hannah can easily win this on her own merits and the voter participation will be very low. She would no doubt be a great addition to Ingrid Waltham and Rachel Pemberton and Fremantle Council, so I wish her the best of luck!

WOMEN HAVE A RIGHT TO EQUALITY!

Posted in fremantle, international women's day, women by freoview on March 8, 2016

It is INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY today, so here a small tribute to all women around the world, especially those who still have to fight for basic rights and equality. It is also a tribute to my very strong mother Annie and my equally strong sisters Marja, Bep and Anita.

I was amazed to learn last night on Q&A on ABC TV that women and girls in Australia still earn substantially less than men, even at executive levels where men on average receive $ 100,000 a year more than women in similar positions. It was also a surprised to learn that often girls receive less pocket money from their parents than their brothers do.

It’s time to let go off gender discrimination as it is ridiculous. Women rock!

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY ON THE BEACH

Posted in fremantle, photography, women by freoview on March 7, 2015

b&w selfie

Is a beach photo still a so-called street photo? Henry Cartier-Bresson is no longer around to make a judgment call, so I just claim it is.

Shot at Bathers Beach, Fremantle today.

LOVE IS NOT GENDER DEPENDENT

Posted in fremantle by freoview on May 6, 2013

Love has nothing at all to do with gender but only with two people wanting to commit themselves to each other, so why do we let religion dictate what society wants. What difference does it make to let people of the same sex marry if they desire to do so. Who are we to judge and reject them this ultimate commitment. Will marriages of gay and lesbian people do society any harm? Of course not! Marriage equality should be a very Australian way of life and tolerance, so all you Fremantle people who support marriage equality, hop on the train to Perth on May 11..

LOOPY CARDS MYSTERY

Posted in fremantle by freoview on April 19, 2012

Rumours that Fremantle Society president Roel Loopers could have the image of a highrise on his new Profile Photography business card seem to be unfounded. The proof we stole from Worldwide printing overnight shows a rose, not a building, as the photo below proves.

One has to question Loopers’ reasons for having a feminine business card, and we did ask Fremantle people who know the wandering shooter what the thinking behind this confused message of sexuality might be.

People who like ‘Loopy’ said he has a split personality and that he had got married to himself in a same sex relationship, while those who don’t like the Fremantle photographer claim he has such a big ego that it had to be surgically split into two, hence his confused business card message.

Freo’s View endeavours to find out what the other side of the card looks like. Will it be macho? Stay tuned!

In the meantime check out the PROFILE PHOTOGRAPHY website!  www.profilephoto.com.au

MELISSA PARKE SUPPORTS SAME SEX MARRIAGE

Posted in politics by freoview on November 22, 2010

Melissa Parke MP, member for Fremantle, has spoken out in favour of legalising gay and lesbian marriages.

Some people might feel offended by, or uncomfortable with, gay and lesbian people, and the fact they would like to get married, but who are we to judge? Surely two people who love each other should have the right to make that relationship recognised in matrimony of some kind.

If certain religions don’t want to allow church ceremonies for same sex marriages, that is their decision. There are still religions who will not marry people either who were married before and have divorced.

Love creates a special bond between two people, no matter what their sex is. Society should support them when they want to show commitment to their partners, not punish them for being different, and open about it.

It is rather disappointing that in the year 2010 we still need to have a political debate about it. One would have thought we’d grown up by now.
