BIG FINES FOR ANZAC DAWN SERVICE DRONE

Posted in ANZAC DAY, city of fremantle, flying, photography, Uncategorized by freoview on April 29, 2018

A professional pilot and drone expert told me yesterday that the operator of the drone at the Fremantle ANZAC Day dawn service at Monument Hill would get a big fine if CASA-Civil Aviation Safety Authority prosecutes the photographer.

The drone photography was commissioned by the City of Fremantle and considered a nuisance by many of the spectators as its buzzing sound interrupted the respectful silences at the dawn service.

According to my expert drones can’t fly before sunrise and after sunset, can’t fly within 50 metres of people, and the airspace above Monument Hill would have been restricted for the fly over of the airforce jets, so no other aircrafts were allowed anywhere near it.

The fine could be as high as $ 9,000 according to my expert.

There are a lot of people who have no idea about the rules and regulations of the use of drones. The tiny aircrafts are very popular because they are great tools for photography, aerial surveys, etc. so public education about how, where and when to use them is essential.

AERIAL SOLAR MARKETING FOR FREMANTLE

It might be a bit left field and out of the box, but if/when Fremantle gets its Solar Farm on the former South Fremantle tip site, could we ask the proponents to create the word FREMANTLE with the solar panels so that there is a bit of marketing for those who fly over our city.

In China there is a solar farm that looks like a panda from the air, so why not follow that lead?

DRONES2 OFFERS NEW PERSPECTIVES

Posted in drones, technology,, frmantle, Uncategorized by freoview on June 28, 2017

As a photographer I have always been interested in drones and if I had had the money for it would have invested in buying one. I can see good use for them for commercial photographers, but also great fun for amateur shooters as it open up new perspectives. We have already seen some magic short videos of Fremantle shot with drones.

My Beacy friend Leanne has started the DRONES2 drone business just down the road from Fremantle in Myaree, so if you are interested in that new technology go and have a chat with her or check them out on www.drones2.com.au and on Facebook.

Did you know that Dubai will soon introduce self-flying drone taxis at the airport there for people who weigh less than 100 kilos? https://wetalkuav.com/dubai-drone-taxis/

With the increased use of drones in our community the team at Drones2 seeks to influence safe and responsible use of drones as they can be a danger to aircraft.

We can enjoy this technology but need to do so with respect for the community around us. Local government rules are being introduced about the use of drones so check out what you are allowed to do around Freo, as privacy concerns are real and need to be addressed

Drones2 is a small business with aviation expertise, drone building experience and a passion for drone technology. They not only sell and repair drones, but understand the technology and the limitations, and how to safely and legally use them.

Drones2 believe anyone who buys a drone should understand the technology behind them and they offer important basic training to anyone who buys a drone from them.

Drones2 also has small drones for children, light weight and safe to operate in your back garden, and for those who really want to get into the basics of flight technology they also provide a “build your own” with instructions and back up support.

Drones2 is at Unit 1/56 McCoy Street in Myaree, near North Lake Road.

FREO PILOT FUNDRAISER FOR ROYAL FLYING DOCTORS

Posted in fremantle, royal flying doctor service by freoview on July 31, 2015

Fremantle resident, and my neighbour, Leanne McKenzie will be flying a 5000 km time trial from Esperance to Hamilton Island to raise funds for the ROYAL FLYING DOCTOR SERVICE. Leanne started flying lessons only four years ago and will fly a Cessna Cardinal single engine. The trial will take twelve days and starts on August 23, stopping at Birdsville, Alice Springs and on the Nullarbor at Forrest, then flying back vial Kununurra and Broome.

Before she flies off Leanne will be at the RFDS fundraising dinner at Lamont’s in Cottesloe. Tickets at $ 85 are still available for that so call Leanne on 0419 041 467 to book them. Kate Lamont will be there and her partner and wine expert John Jens will be serving some great wines, including premier cru burgundies.

If you can’t go to the dinner but still like to donate to the fundraiser please do call Leanne. The RFDS is a vital service to the country people, especially in the remote areas.

VIRGIN AIRLINES PROMOTES W.A. ZEST

Very nice to read that the Virgin Airlines inflight magazine has published an article on Western Australia under the headline Western Zest and that Fremantle has got a few mentions for the Bathers Beach Sunset Food Markets, Kidogo Artshouse and Many 6160.

WHO IS REALLY SAVING THE ENVIRONMENT?

Posted in fremantle by freoview on April 22, 2014

Good to read that the FREMANTLE GAZETTE has introduced a new iPad app, so people can read the paper on their tablet, but I am wondering about the remarks made by Mayor Brad Pettitt about it. The Mayor is quoted in the paper as saying that “it is pleasing to see these kinds of environmentally beneficial initiatives that can reduce resource use.” But does the Gazette app really do that? The paper does not claim it will print fewer newspapers, so where are the environmental benefits?

That leads me to another question. Why do environmentalists like our Freo Mayor fly so often all over the planet? To a non Greenie like me it would make more sense if all these sustainability experts did the less glamorous thing and engaged more with each other and the world through video links, instead of flying around the globe and creating over-sized ecological footprints for themselves.

It needs to be acknowledged that the Fremantle Gazette is printed on recycled paper and that is a good thing, and so is the iPad app.

THUNDERBIRDS SCHOOL OVER FREMANTLE

Posted in fremantle by freoview on March 12, 2014

If you were lucky enough this afternoon around 4 pm you would have watched 23 Thunderbird planes from the RAAF Pearce Base training school do a fly over of Rottnest Island, Fremantle and Perth. I went to Monument Hill to take the photo. Great sight!
