HUGE FIRE AT LIBERAL POLITICIAN MATTHEW HANSSEN’S PROPERTY

Posted in fire, fremantle, politicians by freoview on January 4, 2016

A large fire broke out at the property of Liberal party politician Matthew Hanssen this morning on the corner of Central Avenue and South Street in Beaconsfield. The building contains Mr Hanssen’s home, the Hanssen computer business and the Zedz fish&chips shop.

Matthew told me he had no idea how the blaze started but that the property is insured.

It is not a very good start of the year for Matthew Hanssen who stood for federal parliament against Melissa Parke and for state parliament against Simone McGurk. He also contested the Mayor of Fremantle election two years ago.

I feel very sorry for Matthew and the business operators as this is one of the worst starts of the year imaginable.

FIRE AT HEIRLOOM BY MATCH

It wasn’t a good start for the first working day of the year for the builders of the Heirloom by Match residential development in Fremantle’s Queen Victoria Street. Fire broke out in a generator at around 8.30 this Saturday morning and the fire brigade had to attend to it.

The Heirloom heritage project is a joined development between the Match group and Sirona Capital and will create around 160 apartments in Freo’s east CBD. It is the beginning of the revitalisation of that part of the inner city with several other developments starting soon.

A large fire is happening right now on Rous Head at Fremantle port where 60 fire fighters are battling a blaze at Northport Marine Services. First reports said it was on a boat but it appears to be bigger than that with smoke coming out of a large building as we could observe from the North Mole.

Thirteen fore appliances from Fremantle, Murdoch, Success, Hope Valley, Joondalup, Canning Vale, Gosnells, Daglish and Jandakot are on the scene.

WARM UP AT FREO WINTER FESTIVAL

winter fire

Stay warm! It was cold this morning just 2.6 degrees when I got up at 4.30 am.

Sitting around the fire and toasting marshmallows is a good option at the Fremantle WINTER GARDEN festival.

FREO ART VANDALISM AND HUMOUR

Posted in fremantle, sculpture@bathers by freoview on March 10, 2015

art vandalism

The second installation day of SCULPTURE@BATHERS started off with disappointment as vandals had overnight smashed the windows of the car of the Anthony Muia work at the Whalers Tunnel. But a City of Fremantle parking inspector brought a smile to the faces of volunteers and artists when he left a parking ticket on the windscreen. Nice to see an officer with a sense of humour, as it was of course only tongue in cheek.

But shortly after I had taken this photo I received a call that some young men had set the car on fire and the fire brigade had to attend, so sadly idiotic morons who have no respect for property or life decided it was o.k. to torch the very first installation work by Anthony Muia.

Tens of volunteers are working their guts out to create a great show for Fremantle and beyond so I hope the idiots who lit the fire will get caught and be punished accordingly.

BUSH FIRE SMOKE BLANKETS FREMANTLE

Posted in fire, fremantle, pollution, smoke by freoview on February 11, 2015

smoke 1 smoke 2

Not sure we should be too worried about passive smoking in Fremantle when the bush fire smoke blankets our city far too often. Some morons set fire near Kwinana yesterday and one could barely see the Freo Townhall from the Roundhouse in the afternoon.

This is what it looked like at Bathers Beach.

SMOGING IS BAD FOR YOU

Posted in fremantle, health, smoke by freoview on February 6, 2015

I woke up from the intense smell of smoke last night and there was quite a bit of smog over Fremantle early this morning.

I must admit I quite like the smell of natural smoke that comes from the bush fires, but I feel for people who suffer from asthma. No doubt the sea breeze will blow all the smoke inland later in the day but I wonder if the announced heatwave will blanket the metropolitan area in smog over the weekend.

Here some photos taken from Monument Hill around 8 am.

TOASTED OCEAN DROVER LEAVES FREO PORT

Ocean Drover

The livestock ship Ocean Drover that was on fire three weeks ago limped out of Fremantle port this afternoon escorted by three tugs. It did not appear to leave under it’s own steam and was towed out by what looked like a large ocean tugboat.

NO SHEEP ABOARD BURNING VESSEL

The fire on the Ocean Drover live sheep vessel in Fremantle Port lasted till well in the afternoon, but there were no sheep on board during the emergency. That is great because it is anyone’s guess how 75,000 of them would have been evacuated had they been on board.

The fire in the crew accommodation injured four crew members and one of them is in critical condition while others were treated for smoke inhalation.

TV and police helicopters kept the sky over Fremantle busy till lunchtime and many people went for a look from Victoria Quay, the South Mole and the gun deck at the Round House.

FIRE ON LIVE SHEEP VESSEL IN FREMANTLE

Just by chance I happened to be on the south mole when fire broke out on the live sheep vessel Wellard Ocean Drover in Fremantle Port around 8 am this morning.

It appeared to be on the bridge and crew quarters, so hopefully no sheep were harmed, but the smoke was quite intense and the fire brigade, ship’s crew and port boats all worked together to get the fire under control at around 8.30.

At least six crew members were injured and are being treated.
