SPEED HUMP TSUNAMI IN FREMANTLE

I wonder when we will see a protest march by emergency services and bus drivers about the ever increasing speed humps and roundabouts in Fremantle.

At the F-POL Committee of the City of Fremantle it was announced that “plateaus” would be installed at Ord Street between Ellen Street and Queen Victoria Street to deter container truck drivers on the way to Fremantle Port from using the road.

Recently a ridiculous number of ugly and noisy speed humps were installed at East Street, but that is different from “plateaus” as the latter also are pedestrian crossings.

Speed humps of any kind make for a very uncomfortable journey and seriously slow down emergency vehicles, and many motorists will find alternative routes through suburban streets.

I am not sure why Hampton Road and Ord and can’t have a container truck ban, if the desired outcome is to get rid of these trucks.

A large fire is happening right now on Rous Head at Fremantle port where 60 fire fighters are battling a blaze at Northport Marine Services. First reports said it was on a boat but it appears to be bigger than that with smoke coming out of a large building as we could observe from the North Mole.

Thirteen fore appliances from Fremantle, Murdoch, Success, Hope Valley, Joondalup, Canning Vale, Gosnells, Daglish and Jandakot are on the scene.

PAWNS ADD MUSCLE TO FREO FIRIES

It feels good to be able to report on something creative, quirky and humorous from the embattled Fremantle J Shed at Bathers Beach. Renowned sculptor GREG JAMES has embarked on his Pawn Project of pop-up figures, so expect more to pop up somewhere around Freo in the near future.

This morning he added five new firefighters to the Fremantle Fire Station, but I have seen ambos, police, and other “Pawns” in his studio, and there are more to come.

The Pawns are for sale and look great in homes, gardens, bars, restaurants, etc. so pop in at J Shed on Fleet Street, near the South Mole, and buy a few!

Excitement in Fremantle’s west end early this Sunday morning with a bus allegedly set on fire at the corner of Cliff Street and Phillimore Street near the railway crossing, just behind the Artsource building. Stinking black smoke went up in the air, forcing residents to close windows and some, like I, will have to take the washing off the line and give it another good rinse to get rid of the smell.
