SEE YOU ALL AT THE GROWERS GREEN ON SUNDAY!

Posted in fremantle, growers green, markets by freoview on September 26, 2015

The best hangover cure after the disappointing Fremantle Dockers finals loss to Hawthorn is a Sunday morning with the community at the delightful GROWERS GREEN FARMERS MARKET. Besides great fresh fruit and vegetables and the great atmosphere you’ll also have the chance to meet some of your candidates for the Fremantle Council election.

In between shopping, drinking coffee and having breaky wander over to my ROEL FOR FREO! stall and say G’day. I hear East Ward Councillor Ingrid Waltham will also be there, and the last two weekends I noticed Hilton candidate Sam Donovan and South Ward candidate Andrew Luobikis there, so catch up with any of us and tell us what changes you would like to see at Council. I think I might also have glimpsed South Ward Councillor Jon Strachan last week, unless he has a double.

See you all at the GG this Sunday!

FREO’S PURPLE MADNESS

dockers 4 dockers 3 dockers 2 dockers 1

Only one more sleep and the Fremantle Dockers will be fighting Hawthorn at Subiaco Oval to try to make it to the Grand Final.

There is purple everywhere in Freo and the shops have done excellent window decorations. There is even a Dockers banner on the large crane above Atwell Arcade.

Here a few photos I took of the footy madness.

RACIST DOCKERS FANS EMBARRASS FREMANTLE

Posted in fremantle, fremantle dockers, racism by freoview on September 13, 2015

Just wanted to let the far too many idiotic Dockers fans who booed Adam Goodes last night at the football final know that you are a disgrace and that Fremantle does not stand behind you!

You embarrassed your footy club and the City of Fremantle with your racist rubbish. It was not just a bit of fun, it was unacceptable treatment of a great footy player and a role model for his Aboriginal community and beyond. You who engaged in it last night disgust me!

FREO TRADERS YELL GO THE DOCKERS!

No one can accuse me of bias. With a heavy heart this West Coast Eagles supporter acknowledges the effort by local Fremantle businesses and promotes arch rivals Dockers.

Clearly as someone passionate about Freo I hope the Dockers will win win, but should the Eagles and Dockers make it to the Grand Final I will be sitting on the fence and assume the best team on the day will win. What a cop out hey!

GO THE DOCKERS!

A BUSY SUNDAY IN FREMANTLE

Posted in fremantle by freoview on September 13, 2014

It is going to be very busy in Fremantle this Sunday with road closures in the morning for the Fremantle Fun Run, so it might be a bit more difficult to get to your favourite West End cafe. The event starts on the Esplanade at 8 am.

In Beach Street is the Customs Cars Coffee event between 9-11 am, and from 2 pm on the procession of the Black Madonna will snake from the Basilica through the city centre and that will also involve road closures.

But that should not discourage anyone from coming to Fremantle, as it is going to be a glorious day just perfect for a day out and having a nice alfresco lunch while soaking up the sunshine and atmosphere in gorgeous Freo. What better place to be to celebrate the Dockers’ win over Port Adelaide.

MOVING PLANTER BOXES A FUTILE EXERCISE

Posted in city of fremantle by freoview on September 12, 2014

planters

I have been shaking my head in pure bewilderment since I noticed that some of the planter boxes have been returned to the Fremantle Cappuccino Strip. When I asked on this blog some months ago why they had not been put back there after the festival season was over, Mayor Brad Pettitt replied that an artist would be painting the boxes while they were at the carpark near the Shipwreck Museum and that it would make little sense moving them back and forth. I agree!

But the planters returned to the Strip have not been painted, and if the Freo Dockers should get into the grand final we will no doubt have another great live telecast spectacle on the Cappuccino Strip in two weeks, and that would mean moving the boxes again to make way for the mega screens and thousands of spectators..

It’s no wonder Fremantle residents often criticise the administration for not doing the basic stuff, because this seems a futile exercise, or do the officers responsible for the planters’ journey hope the Dockers won’t make the big day?

SIMONE SMILES FOR FREO!

Dockers and Simone McGurk

I showed yesterday that Federal Labor MP Melissa Parke is doing her bit to support the Fremantle Dockers finals campaign, but at the other end of town the W.A. Labor Member for Fremantle Simone McGurk is also showing her support in the window of her new office in Market Street.

Go Freo!

Delightful Fremantle Labor MP Melissa Parke has purpled up her offices at Wray Avenue, in support of the Fremantle Dockers football team.

Here in the photo with her staffer and Fremantle Deputy Mayor Josh Wilson who has just returned from Kabul.

ART BEATS FOOTBALL

Posted in art, fremantle, sport by freoview on September 10, 2014

Only ever so slightly tongue in cheek.

Art exhibitions attract larger crowds than the AFL. With around 11 million visitors a year, galleries are more highly attended than Australia’s most popular spectator sport which had 10 million attendances in 2009-10.

If that is the case, why don’t we have banners around Fremantle promoting our art galleries, Bathers Beach Art Precinct, exhibition openings, etc. but get mad about the local footy team playing in the AFL finals?

Go the Dockers! Brilliant game to be expected by Waters and Fyfe. I predict a 17 point win for the Freo Dockers over Port Adelaide!

FREO FIGHTING ON ALL FRONTS

Posted in fremantle by freoview on September 8, 2014

I hope this isn’t a bad omen for the Fremantle Dockers football club, but the view of the banners hanging upside down along the Cappuccino Strip, after last night’s storm is not a good sign, and neither was the devastating form of Port Adelaide on Sunday.

One can only hope for the best, and the next big storm is about an hour away, so Freo and the Dockers will just have to batten down.
