BUSH FIRE VOLUNTEERS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Posted in fire, fremantle, Uncategorized by freoview on April 15, 2017

The 114th WA Volunteer Fire Rescue Services Easter Championships are being held this weekend at the Gilbert Fraser reserve in North Fremantle. Go and have a look at it from 9am this easter Sunday morning. It’s fun to watch!

Bush firies from as far away as Port Hedland, Esperance and even Victoria are taking part and they deserve recognition and support for their tireless work to protect their communities.

The event has been held at the North Freo oval for over 40 years but I was not aware of it until I read a tiny one line somewhere on Thursday.

It needs to get a lot better promotion so that the local community comes out in droves to watch it. It’s rather pathetic that just under 100 spectators attend the events and they were family and a few supporters.

HOUSE FIRE IN SOUTH FREMANTLE

Posted in emergency, fire, fremantle by freoview on November 14, 2016

A house fire broke out around 3 pm today in Jenkins Street, near the corner of Chester Street in South Fremantle. Big plumes of smoke filled the sky and school kids were the first spectators.

The fire brigade was there quick smart, so now hoping for the owners/occupiers that not too much damage has been done.

SPEED HUMP TSUNAMI IN FREMANTLE

I wonder when we will see a protest march by emergency services and bus drivers about the ever increasing speed humps and roundabouts in Fremantle.

At the F-POL Committee of the City of Fremantle it was announced that “plateaus” would be installed at Ord Street between Ellen Street and Queen Victoria Street to deter container truck drivers on the way to Fremantle Port from using the road.

Recently a ridiculous number of ugly and noisy speed humps were installed at East Street, but that is different from “plateaus” as the latter also are pedestrian crossings.

Speed humps of any kind make for a very uncomfortable journey and seriously slow down emergency vehicles, and many motorists will find alternative routes through suburban streets.

I am not sure why Hampton Road and Ord and can’t have a container truck ban, if the desired outcome is to get rid of these trucks.

EXCLUSIVE!

The West Australian and Sunday Times always do it, so why not this lill Freo blogger. It’s an exclusive!

A man was spotted on the roof of the Fremantle Markets this Saturday morning and police, fire brigade and St Johns ambulance attended, but the poor sod refused to come down. Thankfully he had a blanket to keep him at least a little warm.

GREAT FUN AT NOTRE DAME UNI WEST END DASH

Posted in fremantle, notre dame university, sport by freoview on March 23, 2016

What a lot of fun today’s annual WEST END DASH by Fremantle Notre Dame University students was. It was the best one I have attended so far.

Primary school students from Wembley, on a historic Freo tour with Two Feet and a Heartbeat, were invited to participate and the firies from the Freo FESA station also turned up for the sprint and tug of war.

There were wheelbarrow and chocolate Easter egg races, a sausage sizzle, golf, basketball, tabletennis an footy games. It was a brilliant way of spending one’s lunch hour.
