IS FREO’S HILTON THE NEXT ONE TO BE BUILT?

Good to see that the Hilton Doubletree hotel at Elizabeth Quay in Perth is nearing completion.

The altered plans for the Fremantle Hilton should be coming before council soon, and we can all cross our fingers from then on that the SKS group will start in a hurry to build the port city hotel, that has been promised for many years.

There are also plans for a Hilton in Cockburn and one in Karratha, so the SKS group has been busy.

There were also high flyers on the Ritz Carlton hotel building at EQ, so I might as well share this photo with you, because I am a show off.  ; >)

THE BEST THING ABOUT PERTH IS FREMANTLE

I rarely go to Perth because the big city just does not interest me, but today I thought I needed to broaden my horizon a bit and jumped on the train to the big smoke.

It did not look anywhere near as bad and vacant as the media has been screaming about and during my two hours walking around I only noticed four beggars, so that ain’t too bad.

I thought to share these photos with my Freo readers. The top photo are shadows at the ferry terminal at Elizabeth Quay, the second one is more shadows at the traffic lights in Wellington Street, the third one is of arty seating at Rain Square, and the last one is a reflection at the escalators at Forest Place.

After having to endure standing next to Mathias Cormann at a pedestrian light for three minutes I was happy to return to good old Freo and am more convinced than ever that the best thing about Perth is Fremantle. ūüėć

FREMANTLE ART AT ELIZABETH QUAY

It is always good to hear that Fremantle artists are involved in major public art projects so I went to Elizabeth Quay in Perth on Friday to have a look at the water playground designed by Aboriginal artist Sandra Hill with the ceramic work done by Freo J Shed artist Jenny Dawson.

They were testing the water again when I was there at 10 am so no kids enjoying the water spouts.

PERTH ELIZABETH LOW QUAY

Posted in elizabeth quay, fremantle, perth by freoview on January 30, 2016

I made my epic journey from Fremantle across the mighty roaring Swan river this morning to have a look at the Elizabeth Quay development in Perth and must say I am underwhelmed. It appears to be a whole lot of money for not that much at all, but that is just my first impression.

To be fair to the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority EQ is still a work in progress and will benefit from more buildings around it and more hospitality venues. There is also still a major ceramics artwork by Sandra Hill and Jenny Dawson to be installed, so I will reserve my final judgment for a few years.

The thing that impressed me most was the giant bird man in a boat by Aboriginal artist Laurel Nannup. It’s stunning!

There was not much food on offer so why did the MRA not put signs around EQ to point out that the Swan River Community Market was on only metres to the east of the development? After all they pay to have the markets there so why not do some decent marketing to support the stallholders.

HAVE A MUSICAL FREO SUNDAY!

It’s a very musical Sunday again in Fremantle with some of my creative friends performing around town. Alan Dawson is one of the EMPIRE BLUES duo playing at the Growers Green market, then from 11.30 am on my mate Ari will be playing on the deck of the lovely BLINCO STREET CAFE in the Fibonacci Centre, and from 2 pm my Clancy’s mate TOM FISHER AND THE LAYABOUTS will be performing at the free Sunday concert in the Fremantle Arts Centre.

The only hiccup to a perfect Sunday could be the rain that is forecast but knowing our weather it will probably never come.

On Saturday go check out the all new Elizabeth Quay in Perth and enjoy the Swan River Markets from 8.30 to 1.30. Lots of stalls with Fremantle people so go support them even when north of the might Swan river!

COME TO THE BELLTOWER MARKETS!

Posted in fremantle, markets, perth by freoview on December 18, 2015

Tomorrow is this year’s last SWAN RIVER COMMUNITY MARKET at the Perth Belltower, so if you have not visited hop on the train or bike and come to the big smoke for a change.

There will be live music, food and craft stalls, fairies, face painting and an animal touch farm, and often we see dolphins in the river. It is only a five-minute walk from the Esplanade train station so taking a train from Murdoch station is also an option for Fremantle people.

The market is organised by Fremantle’s Kylie Wheatley of Red Tent Events fame for the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority and has supported many Freo musicians and stall holders, and me.

SPEED WEEK MARKET AT BELLTOWER

Posted in fremantle, markets, perth by freoview on December 11, 2015

The Swan River Community Markets at the Perth Belltower will be a special one this Saturday because the Perth Speed Week is held on the boardwalk adjacent to it. So all the lead feet and petrol heads out there should make the trip to the big smoke to have a look at racing cars and motorbikes and maybe a view celebrity guests.

There will be food and art and craft for sale, there is an animal touch farm, face painting and fairies for the children, so no one will miss out.

The market is open from 8.30 am to 1.30 pm and the weather forecast is for a mild 27 degrees. See you there!

JOIN THE BELLTOWER MARKETS FUN!

Posted in fremantle, market, perth by freoview on November 20, 2015

The Perth SWAN RIVER COMMUNITY MARKETS will be on again tomorrow from 8 am to 1 pm so come and support all the small traders and the Fremantle organisers of the event. It is straight behind the Belltower so why not drive to South Perth and hop on the ferry to add a bit more fun.

Young Freo legend muso Carus Thompson will be performing all morning and a new interactive artwork at the site has just been revealed and will keep children and adults entertained.

There are lots of art and craft, food and other stalls, an animal touch farm, face painting and fairies, so join the fun!

PEOPLE MAKE LIFE GOOD

Posted in fremantle, markets, people, perth by freoview on November 1, 2015

I love people and because of them it is easy to love life, as most people are good and interesting, no matter what their background, culture or religion is.

I love being a photographer as it enables me to observe and capture people at their best, and I love helping organise markets because it involves a lot of people.

Yesterday I took these photos at the Swan River Community Markets at the Belltower in Perth of the gorgeous fairies of Ladybird Entertainment and kids enjoying the animals at Farmer Damian’s touch farm. You can also find them at the Sunday’s Growers Green market in Fremantle. Live is good!

WHO DOESN’T LOVE A GOOD MARKET!

Posted in fremantle, markets, perth by freoview on October 30, 2015

If you love markets the way I do you might not want to wait for the BIG Fremantle GROWERS GREEN Farmers Market on Sunday, so hop on the train tomorrow to Perth and join me at the SWAN RIVER COMMUNITY MARKETS at Barrack Street, behind the Belltower.

It is a great location and there are lots of food and other stalls, live music, and animal touch farm and fairies and face painting for the children.

Channel 7 will be filming all morning so this is a good chance of getting your face on TV.

We are open from 8-1 on Saturday! Se you there!
