The grand opening of the new Duke of George bar in the epic former Brush Factory development and Lauder&Howard antiques building in George Street in East Fremantle will be on January 18 with a three-day feast of blues and jazz as part of the Fringeworld festival season.

The renovation of the heritage-listed building and new residential additions, opposite the old Royal George hotel, took just about forever but is finally nearing completion.

The future of the Royal George is still not known as developers Saracen are considering the viability of a seven-storey residential building behind it, when they wanted three times that height.
