It is always an impressive sight to see large cruiseliners enter and depart Fremantle Port and float past the equally impressive Maritime Museum, so I took this photo of the Pacific Jewel leaving Freo just after 4pm on Friday afternoon.

FREMANTLE WELCOMES QUEEN ELIZABETH PASSENGERS

QE 1

QE 2

The Queen Elizabeth cruise liner arrived in Fremantle at 6am this morning bringing over 2,000 passengers to our city. Many of them however hopped on a bus to the Pinnacles or Swan Valley, so it was relatively quiet in Fremantle and at the Roundhouse which I opened up an hour and a half earlier at 9am.

The City of Frematle had 23 Visitor Centre ambassadors at the Passenger Terminal on Victoria Quay to greet the arriving passengers and also had roving teams throughout the inner city. There was also a shuttle bus every 15 minutes between Kings Square and the Passenger Terminal and that will continue till 9pm this evening.

Quite a few visitors to the Roundhouse remarked on the very good historic lecture they had received about Fremantle on board the ship by Fremantle Society President John Dowson, so good on him!

The Queen Elizabeth is due to depart at 10pm this eve on her way to Busselton, Adelaide and Melbourne. Some people told me they will return to Perth from there on the Indian Pacific train.

Cruiseliner Celebrity Solstice arrived in Fremantle Port this morning and is an impressive sight at Victoria Quay.

The 317 metre long ship can accommodate 2,852 passengers and cost $ 750 million to build.

The Express Lane cafe at the B Shed Rottnest Island ferry terminal did a roaring trade with lost of people heading off to the island while a strong easterly was blowing in hot air.

A travel warning should have been issued for Fremantle as a tsunami of cruise ship passengers from the Ovation of the Seas create a huge wave of visitors to our port city today.

City of Fremantle Visitor Guides were at hand at the Passenger Terminal and Kings Square and a free Freo City shuttle bus service took passengers from Victoria Quay to the city centre.

Fremantle welcomes you all and we hope you will enjoy your stay in our beautiful and hospitable city!

BIG CROWD FOR OVATION OF THE SEAS DEPARTURE

The biggest cruise ship to visit Australia finally left Fremantle Port with an hour delay today because a bigger crane was needed to lift the gangplank due to high tide and a very strong sea breeze, and what an impressive sight the Ovation of the Seas was at 6 pm today when she floated past the Maritime Museum.

It is really nice to see so many people in Fremantle and so many people from all over Perth coming to the port to wave Aussie flags and say goodbye.

BUSY SUMMER START FOR FREMANTLE

Posted in cruiseship, explorer of the seas, fremantle by freoview on November 13, 2015

Summer and the cruise ship season has well and truly started in Fremantle. The Explorer of the Seas, the largest cruise ship based in Australia, did berth in Fremantle Port this morning. The vessel is 138,000 ton and capable of accommodating 3,800 guests. With a whopping 311 metres-long it is 62 metres bigger that Perth’ biggest building Central Park.

The Passenger Terminal and surrounds looked like an ant hill this morning with so many people coming and going. Great fun!

FREO WELCOMES CRUISE SHIPS WITH PERSONAL TOUCH

Posted in cruiseliners, fremantle by freoview on December 23, 2014

The Fremantle Tourist Association will be initiating a Harbour Host scheme where volunteers will welcome cruise liner passengers who arrive at the port. Many of the guides in uniform will be hospitality and tourism students and will provide visitors with information about Fremantle and give directions.

44 cruise ships will arrive in Fremantle port this season. Last year nearly 61,000 cruise ship passengers arrived in Freo together with over 19,000 crew members.

The cruise industry injects some $ 116 million in the Western Australian economy, with about one-third of the passengers going on pre-booked tours when arriving in Fremantle, while the majority explores our city during the day the ship is at berth in port.
