Here a couple of photos I took this morning of the colours of Fremantle.

The first one is of the umbrellas at Bathers Beach House, and the second one is a detail of a massive RoRo vessel that brings thousands of vehicles to Fremantle Port.

SPLASHES OF COLOUR IN FREMANTLE CBD

Posted in architecture, art, development, fremantle, western australia by freoview on September 29, 2016

colour-1

Bland mediocrity with very little colour is the fashion of the day for new development in Fremantle as architects keep designing uninspiring buildings for our inner city.

So it is great to finally see some bold colours in Short Street where they are giving the building opposite Spare Parts Puppet Theatre a facelift.

The QUEST apartment hotel is also getting a splash of colour on the corner of Pakenham Street there, but I am not certain that all that blue matches up well with the cladding of the building.

I also thought these glass panels were going to show a heritage feature and not just a modern abstract art work.

THE COLOURS OF J SHED ART STUDIOS

Some arty photos I took this afternoon of the J Shed art studios at Fremantle’s Bathers Beach.

I love spending time there and watch out over historic Bathers Bay and get startled by the 1 o’clock cannon fire at the Roundhouse.

Arthur Head is a very special place in Western Australia’s history, so go and visit it!

ADDING FREO COLOUR TO YOUR LIFE

Let me put some Freo colour in your life!

Photography for me is about finding beauty in the ordinary, seeing those little gems most people miss because they are not great observers. Being in the moment has been swapped for constantly being on the mobile phone and checking text and Facebook messages, not for me though as pounding the streets is a bit like walking meditation and total concentration of finding new images in the daily routine of life.

These photos were taken in the Fishing Boat Harbour on this glorious autumn morning.

Let there be light!

FREO’S ARTY CARPARK

Posted in art, fremantle, photography by freoview on March 16, 2016

I had my arty eyes in this morning so I took some industrial art photos at the Fremantle  Queensgate carpark. Art is in the eyes of the beholder, so love it or hate it, I don’t care. ; >)

Did you know that is cost ONLY $ 2.20 and hour to park there!

FANTASTIC FREMANTLE FESTIVAL PARADE VERY FREO!

Posted in city of fremantle, fremantle festival by freoview on November 2, 2015

The 2015 Fremantle Festival parade was one of the longest, best, most colourful and noisiest parades I have watched. It was very heart-warming to see that unique Freo community spirit. Great to see so many kids and schools and community groups participating. Well done Freo!

It was also a great idea to finish it with a party at Kings Square. Unfortunately my camera ran out of memory so only photos from the parade but not the party.

FREO’S COLOURFUL LAWLEY’S CAFE

I am trying to lift my mood a bit so nice to see some colour at Lawley’s Cafe in Fremantle’s Wray Avenue.

Also uplifting to see that this blog had 2444 hits yesterday. A sign I am doing something right with Freo’s View that will be five years old in October.

COLOUR IN THE DAY KEEPS THE DOCTOR AWAY

I often wonder about the lack of colour on new buildings, as I believe there needs to be contrast between the mainly white concrete buildings. A splash of colour here and there will make a lot of difference. Whilst I enjoy some of the very large new mural artworks in Fremantle I would not like to see it becoming common practise on a large number of buildings because that would be over kill.

I had a photo shoot in Subiaco yesterday and noticed how on a basically bland building they covered the street-level car park with these colourful panels that have a lot of small holes in them to allow fresh air to get in and car fumes to escape. It makes a big difference to the pretty boring building and streetscape I believe.

Bright, colourful and creatively designed buildings become an attraction and create a sense of beauty and well-being, so let’s have a bit more of it.

THE ART OF DEVELOPMENT

Posted in art, fremantle, photography by freoview on May 2, 2015

Walking down lovely George Street in East Fremantle yesterday I noticed this building work on the former Lauder&Howard antique warehouse. The setting sun made it into an artwork in its own right so I could not resist photographing it of course.
