HAVE FUN IN THE WINTER FESTIVAL BUBBLE

Posted in children, family, fremantle, western autralia, winter festival by freoview on July 4, 2016

winter bubble

This long bubble tube at the Fremantle Winter Festival at the Esplanade is very popular with children who run and roll around inside it.

It looks like a whole lot of fun, so can we have a senior night in them as well? Only kidding!

If you haven’t been there, go and check it out. There is ice skating and a huge slide, toboggan, food and drinks and even hot chestnuts and ‘real’ snow.

FREO WINTER FESTIVAL IS OPEN!

Posted in fremantle, winter festival by freoview on July 1, 2015

The Fremantle WINTER FESTIVAL started today on the Esplanade and will run till July 26. The little kids were the first on the icerink this morning and even got a tiny bit of snow. The large slide will be put up overnight.

There will be all kind of entertainment in the teepee and other areas of the festival, there is a bar and several foodstalls that sell bratwurst and sauerkraut, paella, italian food, pastries, churro and burgers, so there is plenty to do and see.

Here some first impressions.

BIG FREMANTLE WINTER FESTIVAL STARTS WEDNESDAY!

The ice on the huge 600 sqm-icerink of the Fremantle WINTER FESTIVAL on the Esplanade is slowly building up and large boxes with skates for hire are being unpacked. It will be a much bigger and more varied Winter Festival than we had three years ago with different kinds of entertainment each night, local food stall, a snow cannon and huge slide, and of course the bar will sell mulled wine and the kinds can build snowmen.

It will open on Wednesday July 1 and be on till the 26th so don’t miss out on the fun. It will be a great spectacle just to watch people trying to learn to skate. Bring a cushion to protect your bottom. ; > )

INDUSTRIAL PORT LANDSCAPE

With the sale of Fremantle Port and the controversy over the Perth Freight Link being two of the main topics of conversation in Fremantle at present, I went to have a wander around Rouse Head yesterday and look at the development there.

The stack of freezer containers caught my eye and needed to be captured on camera.

I AM DREAMING OF A WHITE FREO

Posted in festival, fremantle, winter by freoview on May 15, 2015

Fremantle will have a WINTER GARDEN FESTIVAL again this year from July 1-26 and it will be bigger and better than the one we had on the Esplanade three years ago. A 600 square metre ice rink, a big mountain-like pop slide, a snow machine making real falling snow, carnival rides, music and other events and a bar will all be part of the four-week long event for young and old.

The Fremantle business community through BID-Business Improvement District- is getting behind the event with special vouchers which will be redeemable for tickets and there are plans for a night time Christmas market as well.

BID expects the event will attract 100,000 visitors to Fremantle and this would be a real winter time boost for the local economy. The 2012 Winter Festival attracted tens of thousands of people from all over Perth, so it is expected that this more exciting event will bring even larger crowds to Freo.

The Winter Garden is free to enter but tickets need to be purchased to skate on the rink and use the rides.

PERFECT WEATHER TO STAY AT HOME

Posted in fremantle, weather by freoview on September 27, 2014

It is a miserable wet, windy and cold day where any excuse to stay in should do. Watching the AFL grad final will be on the agenda for many, but just putting the feet up and read a good book will also be nice. A bit of lunch, some nice chocolate, maybe even a drop of nice red wine, could make it a pleasant dat after all, or just cuddle up with someone you love.

Here some photos I took around Fremantle this morning.

Don’t worry about the weather. Have a happy long weekend, Freo!

COLD, WET AND WILD FREMANTLE

Posted in fremantle, weather by freoview on July 22, 2014

rain 1

Is it just my perception, or is this one of the wettest winters we have had in Fremantle for many years? I can’t recall day after day of rain, and it has been very heavy at times as well. It rained all night from early yesterday evening, the sky is black at times and rainbows pop up like popcorn. If this goes on I will have to move to the Kimberley because I don’t like the wet and cold at all.

Here a photo I took at the South Mole this morning. bbbrrrrrrr

FREO TRAINS NOT RUNNING AGAIN

Posted in fremantle by freoview on July 22, 2014

busses

It is easy to promote the use of public transport and tell people to leave their cars at home, but what is required is reliable public transport and unfortunately we haven’t got that in Fremantle. Today again the train service between Fremantle and Midland was interrupted and long lines of busses were parked outside the Freo train station.

Train service failures have become a regular occurrence for Fremantle commuters and do nothing to create confidence in the public transport system, especially when it is cold wet and windy, and a nice warm car seems a great alternative.

ICE COLD FREMANTLE HARBOUR

Port A

I am not sure that Bloody Hell! is the right expression when one complains about the cold weather, because the hell and heaven experts tell us it is hot in hell, but anyway, bloody hell, it was bloody cold this morning in Fremantle harbour. I was even contemplating selling parts of my body to La Paleta for their frozen delights range.

But I digress, as I only wanted to show you, my dearest and most valued readers, the quite eerie and a bit misty light just after sun rise. Let’s pretend I only got up early to take this photo for you all, and not because I wanted to watch the German soccer team beat the crap out of the defenceless Brasilians. Let’s hope my Dutchies will do the same to Argentina tomorrow morning.

TIE THE KANGAROO, and everything else, DOWN FREO!

The wind is already very strong and showers obscured the view from Arthur Head to Fremantle harbour this morning, but there is more sever weather to come. Expect big storms, thunder and even hail later today, so tie everything down outside and try to keep out of the rain. It’s not a great start to the school holidays and to keep the kids occupied, but things will hopefully improve soon.

Spare Parts Puppet Theatre has got the Little Prince on show, so book your seats! Your children will love you for it.
