OZ BIGGEST CHOIR AT MARKETS TODAY

Posted in fremantle by freoview on July 10, 2011

The AUSTRALIAN GIRLS CHOIR, the longest running and biggest choir in Australia, will perform at the Fremantle Markets at 12.30 today, Sunday July 10.

This is the launch of the institution in Western Australia, which started in Melbourne in 1984 and is also in Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide.

These girls have sung at the Australian Open, for Oprah Winfrey and also at the G’Day USA Week in the United States.

Combine your fruit and vegies shopping at the markets today with a wee bit of culture. With luck you can listen to the choir while munching on a special burger at one of the outdoor tables at the new JUS Burgers.

P.S. Amazing! They have been performing as long as I have been in Western Australia! I arrived in Perth in September 1984 after having enjoyed Sydney for two and a half years.

IT’S NOT ILLEGAL TO SEEK ASYLUM!

Posted in fremantle by freoview on June 25, 2011

The WELCOME PARTY for refugees at Fremantle’s King’s Square was a heart warming afternoon, with a multitude of cultures and nationalities supporting the cause of asylum seekers. The event was organised by  Leony Lundi  of the Fremantle-Tangey Greens party and Rachel Pemberton of Greens Senator Scott Ludlam’s office, and attracted many people.

A choir from the central African nation of Burundi sang, the West Papuan band Mambefor played, refugee students from Melville Senior High School played footy and volleyball, and local percussionists dictated the beat of the day. Children dressed up and played games. It was fun for all, and a reminder that refugees deserve our support and not the rejection they get from Prime Minister Julia Gillard and the Australian government.

Greens politicians Scott Ludlam and Lynn MacLaren were there, as were Mayor Brad Pettitt and councilors Sam Wainwright, Josh Wilson, Andrew Sullivan and David Cogin.

CAROLS AT CLANCYS

Posted in Uncategorized by freoview on December 23, 2010

A good opportunity to catch up with friends before Christmas is at this evening’s CAROLS AT CLANCYS from 5-7.

Bring a smile, a positive attitude, and the willingness to relax and chill out, together with the longing for a cold beer, a glass of red, or a bubbly or two. The entertainment is free, so it shows that Christmas does not have to be expensive to enjoy it.

FAST FUN SANTA RUN

Posted in fremantle by freoview on December 5, 2010

The first ever Western Australian SANTA RUN was held on Saturday in Fremantle, with nearly 500 able and disabled people of all ages participating. The event was organised by the VARIETY CLUB and ran from South Beach to the South Fremantle Oval, where the runners enjoyed the hospitality of the Fremantle Dockers’ open day and the fireworks at 8pm.

There was even a very Australian Santa, riding an emu, people in wheelchairs, and a father pushing a pram with three children. It was a whole lot of fun!

FREO’S FEMININE FESTIVAL

Posted in Uncategorized by freoview on November 7, 2010

Looking for my warm, caring, and deeply emotional feminine side today, I discovered the gorgeous knitting art works by the BOBBIN CLUB all over town.  From there I traveled to the Moores buildings for some more DRAWN TOGETHER, to Samson Park for the CHILDREN’S FIESTA, the ELLEN STREET TENNIS&BOWLING CLUB, and THE NORTH FREMANTLE COMMUNITY CENTRE.

Good to see man about town, our Mayor Brad Pettitt enjoying himself at so many of the locations, playing tennis and lawn bowls, and admiring the living wall in North Freo with councilor Robert Fittock. I doubt Brad had much private time this weekend.
