GYUTO MONKS AT FREMANTLE TOWNHALL

Posted in buddhism, fremantle, religion by freoview on October 11, 2016

The Gyuto Monks of Tibet had the official opening of their stay in Fremantle at the Townhall last night with inspiring and soul moving chanting and the start of a sand Mandala.

Noongar elder Richard Walley gave a welcome to country.

It is always special when the monks are in town even when one isn’t a Buddhist.

They will be here for over a week so check out the program on the Facebook page, or scroll down on this blog to “older posts” and find out what is on.

GYUTO MONKS CRICKET MATCH AT CLANCY’S

The GYUTO Monks of Tibet are in W.A. again and starting off their trip in Fremantle on Sunday October 9 when they are playing the Clancy’s All Stars for the Divinity Cup in a cricket match at Princess May Park at 10 am.

It is a free event so bring the family along for a morning of fun.

I took part in the inaugural Divinity Club when there were teams from St Patrick’s Basilica, Clancy’s and the Gyuto monks, and our Clancy’s team played very well mainly because I never got to bowl or bat, but took some great photos.

The monks have a great sense of humour but are chuckers, so come and see them being bowled LBW-Love Buddha World.

Posted in earthquake, fremantle, nepal, tiber by freoview on May 3, 2015

nepal

Save the date! JUNE 13! FUNDRAISER FOR NEPAL AT THE FREMANTLE SAILING CLUB!!!!

Live music, silent auction, raffles with all prizes donated by our generous community with big hearts. More details soon!
All donations to Oxfam and the Gyuto Monks in Nepal.

We plan to buy 50 families or more with Oxfam family packs over 500 will be helped with tents, drinking water, blankets, portaloos, first aid kits, etc.

The monks, like most others in Kathmandu, are outside under tents/tarpaulins with little access to water and food and other facilities. They are unsure about the condition of their monastery and not allowed to and too frightened to go inside.

The Gyuto Monks are very well-known in Fremantle and have made regular visits to Freo. They also have participated in the very funny Divinity Cup cricket matches in Princess May Park, playing against teams from Clancy’s and  St Patrick’s.

COME AND SUPPORT THE FUNDRAISER OR JUST DONATE MONEY!

I will post more details soon as they come to hand.

GYUTO MONKS OF TIBET RETURN TO FREMANTLE

Posted in fremantle, gyuto monks by freoview on December 7, 2014

gyuto-poster-jan-2015

Following a huge regional program in WA mid-year as part of their mammoth 2 year tour of Australia, the GYUTO MONKS OF TIBET return to the west for their last 5 days before returning to their monastery in Dharamsala in the foothills of the Himalayas.

They fly in on January 22 for a Harmonic Chanting performance at the Fremantle Yoga Centre at E Shed, then whip down to Yallingup for a weekend Meditation Retreat, to return to Fremantle on Monday January 25 for the Biennial Cricket Match hosted by Clancy’s Fish Pub. This time the monks hope to claim the Divinity Cup as they were pipped at the post in 2013 losing by one run! It’s a fun day out for all. I played in the inaugural match but never had to bowl or bat, so that’s probably why the Clancy’s team won.

From Darwin to Tasmania and east to west these monks just keep on going. It’s their 21st visit since 1994 to Australia and today, more than ever, what they offer seems more relevant than ever. Whether its fear, anxiety, depression or simply looking for purpose in life, from teenagers to the elderly and everyone in between, they offer inspiration, hope and human affection.

Sadly, the monks remain stateless persons, refugees, unable to live in the country of their birth in peace where there is no tolerance or freedom to practice their way of life.

Catch these monks before they go – the weekend will be a very special occasion and it’s a great time of year to get clear on your goals and direction for the year.
